Meghan McCain Warns Dems on The View: ‘Be Very Careful,’ Midterms Aren’t ‘In the Bag’
The View held a discussion on Friday about how things might pan out in the midterm elections, and Meghan McCain warned her colleagues that the last thing Democrats should do is get overconfident about their chances of flipping Congress with a blue wave.
The discussion began with a focus on Oprah Winfrey and the rousing speech she gave on Thursday for Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams (D). The panel gave Winfrey rave reviews for her ability to connect with people and her self-made successes. That led to the recurring question of whether she should run for president.
McCain noted that Winfrey would head into “tenuous territory” by nationalizing herself with a presidential bid, especially since her celebrity factor could work both ways. She agreed with the panel that Winfrey exists in her own class of star power, though McCain concluded by saying Abrams’ victory is not assured just because Winfrey stands beside her.
“Be careful with it,” McCain said. “I don’t know why I’m giving Democrats free advice, but be careful with this. Nancy Pelosi coming out saying you guys already have it in the bag. It’s neck and neck with [Brian] Kemp. Be very careful. Don’t make predictions before Election Day.”
