Morning Joe Slams Political Tribalism, Kellyanne Conway: ‘Apparently a Senate Seat is Worth a Child’

Morning Joe’s panel took turns slamming Republican Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore and his supporters on Tuesday, blaming his continued support on dangerous political tribalism.

“This is tribalism to the extreme,” MSNBC’s Willie Geist said. “This is talking about protecting a guy who’s been accused, credibly, by any number — nine, 10 women, underage women — of sexual contact with them or sexual harassment in some way.”

“If you’re willing to protect the tribe at the cost of a 14-year-old girl, you need to reevaluate yourself and your tribalism,” he continued, citing the Alabama pastor who defended Moore against allegations of underage sexual assault by claiming that “some 14-year-olds could pass for 20.”

Co-host Joe Scarborough recalled the Trump supporter who said in a CNN focus group that if Jesus Christ told him the president had cooperated with Russia, he would ask Trump for confirmation.

“This is a bizarre — a group of extraordinarily weak-minded people,” Scarborough said. “Weak, pathetic, sad people, who will blindly follow Donald Trump over their God.”

Scarborough continued that the “personality cult” around Trump “is what you see at the beginning of the rise of any autocracy.”

Conservative political analyst Rick Tyler added that in the past, “we could always expect some moral authority from the White House,” before commending counselor Kellyanne Conway for being “on the right track at first.”

“She came out and said no Senate seat is worth a child,” Tyler recalled, of Conway’s initial reaction to the Moore allegations.

“And she came out yesterday and completely reversed herself on that: apparently a Senate seat is worth a child.”
