MSNBC Host Says Warren is Making a Mistake By Spurning Fox News: ‘You’ve Got to Go Into Enemy Territory’

MSNBC’s Donny Deutsch, host of Saturday Night Politics, disagreed with Senator Elizabeth Warren‘s decision to turn down a Fox News town hall.

Deutsch told Nicolle Wallace that the goal of every Democratic candidate is to win and beat President Donald Trump, arguing, “It’s great in theory to say come to my events. The overwhelming majority of the people watching MSNBC, they’re blue. They just are. And if you want to convert, you’ve got to go into enemy territory.”

Center for American Progress Action Fund campaign director Juanita Tolliver countered that “she’s doing that already.”

Deutsch said people coming to Warren’s events are “already built into” wanting a Democrat over the president.

“Not necessarily,” Tolliver said. “In West Virginia, the woman said I didn’t believe this was a place I should be, but I came and I listened and you’re addressing a crisis.”

Deutsch said that’s a “needle in the haystack” and Democrats who want to win and reach Trump voters needs to go where they are.

At one point Wallace said whether or not you agree with Warren’s tactic, you know where she’s coming from:

“You may disagree with the tactic, that tactically she should have been on their air. George W. Bush won in 2004 largely because he said to voters, you may not always agree with me, but you will always know where I stand. You may not agree with Elizabeth Warren, but you know exactly where she stands. I don’t know where Amy Klobuchar stands, if you went on there––I don’t know where Bernie stands… I don’t know if they believe what she believes. I think believing and calling out Fox News as a purveyor of hate is a powerful message, beyond just the Democratic primary voters.”
