MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace Faces MAGA Fury After ‘Repulsive’ Take On Trump’s ‘Honorary Agent’ Gesture to Child Cancer Survivor
MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace faced backlash as MAGA supporters called for her firing and an apology for a take delivered on air after President Donald Trump made a 13-year-old brain cancer survivor and aspiring police officer an “honorary agent” during his speech to Congress.
During the address, Trump spotlighted DJ Daniels, a young boy battling brain cancer who dreams of becoming a police officer. In a heartwarming moment, Trump announced that Daniels would be sworn in as an honorary Secret Service agent in a moment that drew cheers from Republicans in the House gallery.
“He has always dreamed of becoming a police officer. But in 2018, DJ was diagnosed with brain cancer,” Trump said, before adding: “And tonight, DJ, we’re going to do you the biggest honor of them all.”
Wallace admitted she “allowed herself to feel joy” for Daniels and his law enforcement dreams before quickly pivoting to criticize the president for engaging in the spectacle while pardoning MAGA supporters who attacked police officers during the Capitol riot in 2021.
“I hope he’s alive for another 95 years and I hope he lives the life he wants to live. He wants to be a cop, he knows what he wants to do and maybe when you have childhood cancer that crystallizes for you,” Wallace said.
Then, in a reference to the Jan. 6 Capitol riots, Wallace took aim at Trump, saying: “I hope he never has to defend the United States Capitol against Donald Trump’s supporters and if he does, I hope he isn’t one of the six who loses his life to suicide.”
Wallace also criticized Trump for praising federal government cuts, adding that while she didn’t know the treatment that Daniels had received, the administration had “slashed cancer research” and cuts had halted “pediatric cancer trials” for children like him.
Her comments sparked an immediate firestorm from influential pro-Trump personalities, with critics accusing Wallace of politicizing a child’s illness to attack Trump.
