Scaramucci Invokes Maroon 5 to Defend Trump on the National Anthem

11-day White House veteran Anthony Scaramucci defended President Donald Trump’s lyrical butchering of the national anthem at last night’s College Football National Championship game by saying that he — an apparent big fan of Adam Levine — doesn’t even know every word to “all the Maroon 5 songs.”

While talking to Chris Cuomo about recent Trump administration controversies, CNN played a clip of the president appearing to miss a few words of “The Star Spangled Banner” during a performance of the song he claims to respect.

“Do you think that the president of the United States knows all the words to the national anthem?” quizzed Cuomo.

“1000 percent,” Scaramucci responded.

Scaramucci then attempted to defend Trump by suggesting that knows the anthem but was just caught by cameras at a bad time.

“I know a lot of the Maroon 5 songs, I don’t know all of them,” said Scaramucci.

A confused and humored Cuomo then appropriately responded by saying, “I don’t know why you want to admit that.”

And yes, it is unclear why the ex-communications director was quick to invoke his love for Maroon 5’s sweet melodies and catchy lyrics in his defense of Trump’s patriotism, but “The Mooch” has also been known to discuss White House officials sucking their own “cock” when talking to reporters so his rhyme-or-reason with the media might be hard to pin down.

Regardless, the interview got more interesting when Scaramucci repeatedly tried to pressure Cuomo into singing the national anthem on-air to prove that he knows all the words. Unfortunately, the host said he’ll reserve his pipes for a “high school basketball game.”

The back-and-forth predictably concluded with Scaramucci saying, “My opinion is right, Chris, and yours is wrong” — all with a smile on his face, of course.
