Scarborough Slams Barr for Comparing U.S. Intel to Russia: ‘Might As Well Slap an Ex-KGB Badge’ on Him
Joe Scarborough slammed into Attorney General Bill Barr on Friday for suggesting that there’s a comparison to be made between Russia’s election-meddling and the FBI’s investigation of President Donald Trump‘s 2016 campaign.
Barr gave an interview to Fox News that will air later today, but in a previewed segment, he said that “people have to find out what the government was doing during that period. If we’re worried about foreign influence, for the very same reason we should be worried about whether government officials abuse their power and put their thumb on the scale.”
As Morning Joe reacted, Scarborough said that for Barr to draw a “moral equivalency” between Russia’s interference and U.S. intel community processes, “you might as well just slap an ex-KGB badge on our Attorney General.” He made this point by arguing that Barr’s comparing of the Justice Department to Russia draws parallels to Trump saying he trusts Vladimir Putin‘s word over his intelligence chiefs.
“What’s so disgusting about Barr is he knows better. He knows about all of the procedural safeguards. He knows about FISA judges, and knows FISA judges are selected by the chief justice of the Supreme Court, they’re the best and brightest and take their bobs seriously. There are so many procedural safeguards that to compare that to Putin saying ‘let’s undermine American democracy and steal their election’ is about as contemptible a thing that anybody has done or said during this entire Trump Administration run.”
