‘Shouldn’t Be President If You Don’t Know the Job!’ Whoopi Goldberg Slams Trump for Pleading Ignorance on the Constitution
Whoopi Goldberg went off on President Donald Trump for claiming he didn’t know if his job as president was to uphold the Constitution.
Trump appeared on Sunday’s episode of NBC’s Meet the Press with Kristen Welker. When the interview got to the conversation of the Trump administration’s mass deportations, Welker asked if Trump agreed with Secretary of State Marco Rubio saying everyone in the U.S. — including non-citizens — deserves due process. In response, the president said, “I don’t know.” Asked directly if his job was to uphold the U.S. Constitution, Trump offered a similar response.
On Monday’s episode of The View, Goldberg introduced a clip of Trump’s second inauguration — when he swore to “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”
“So I don’t know why you don’t remember it,” Goldberg said, “because we saw you say it.”
“This isn’t AI you. That was you — two times! So, when you say you don’t know, you have to check, then you shouldn’t be president if you don’t know the job! Why are you doing this? And don’t act like we’re the idiots here! You know the job; and yes, you know you’re violating your oath of office by doing that. Or am I crazy?” she concluded.
