Stephen A. Smith Rips Democrats for ‘Acting Like They’re Still on the Campaign Trail’ Against Trump: ‘He’s Your President Now!’

Stephen A. Smith ripped into the media and Democrats on Capitol Hill, accusing them of not accepting that President-elect Donald Trump won the election.

Smith joined Fox News’ Sean Hannity on Thursday’s Hannity to discuss President Joe Biden’s farewell address to the nation, which Smith called “sad,” as well as Trump’s upcoming term. During a discussion on the media’s coverage of Biden and Trump, Smith pointed to the current Senate confirmation hearings for Trump’s nominees as an example of Trump critics still being in “campaign” mode.

“I’m going to bring up the confirmation hearings again when I say this. Donald Trump, there’s no way in hell that I think the man is innocent of every single little thing nor do I think he’s guilty of everything they’ve said,” Smith said. “What I will say is this: the man won the election, the American people have spoken, what the hell are you doing on Capitol Hill acting like you’re still on the campaign trail talking about him like there are votes at stake? He’s your president now!”

Now, he added, is a moment lawmakers should be “rooting” for the president-elect, rather than continuing to campaign against his agenda.

“You have to sit up there and say, I hope he does well for this country, I hope he does the kind of things he says he’s going to do to make our country better again. I hope those things happen. You can’t be rooting against him because you don’t like him at the expense of the United States of America,” he said. “We have gotten to that point in society where you have too many people doing that and that’s the real problem in America.”

Hannity was in agreement with Smith, but couldn’t get him excited about the idea of coming together with Trump.

“Alright, I’m going to make it my mission to somehow one day, hopefully, bring you and Donald Trump together,” Hannity said.

Smith rolled his eyes at the prospect.

“I will be the peacemaker,” Hannity responded. “The Bible says blessed are the peacemakers, I want to be one.”
