‘Stupid Decisions And Stupid Statements’: GOP Rep Chip Roy Roasts Hunter Biden After Shock Presser
Texas Republican Rep. Chip Roy told Fox News on Wednesday that Hunter Biden’s performance defying a subpoena with comments at a Capitol Hill presser was just the latest in a long string of “stupid” actions on the part of the President’s son.
The younger Biden’s dramatic reveal on Wednesday that he was going to continue refusing to sit for a deposition and claiming his offer to participate in a public hearing answering questions of his choosing is more cooperative was met with shock and, from Republicans, disdain and contempt proceedings. Even MSNBC called it a PR play.
But Roy, in comments similar to those made by Reps. James Comer and Jim Jordan at the GOP presser, told Fox News anchor Martha MacCallum that Hunter’s comments included a very telling turn of phrase with regard to his father, President Joe Biden.
Roy first said that the deposition and then hearing order of business is normal procedure “for all our witnesses” before singling out a particular choice of words.
“It’s important to note that on the steps of the Capitol, he said an important word. He said his dad didn’t have any involvement ‘financially,'” Roy said. “He didn’t say it was a blanket, you know, that he wasn’t involved. That’s really important.”
“Hunter Biden is basically an ongoing domino fall of stupid decisions and stupid statements. And we’re seeing that right here,” he continued. “Going to the Capitol and saying his dad wasn’t involved in ‘financial’ dealings. We’ll see if that’s true. But that is a big tell to me.”
At the GOP presser, Jordan said the careful choice of words “is a huge change” to what both Bidens have previously said, and that it “sort of means he’s involved.”
“I think that’s how anyone with common sense would read it,” said Jordan.
To MacCallum, Roy said, “We all know that his dad was involved in enriching Hunter. We all know that foreign entities were sending millions of dollars to them.”
“We know these things to be true,” said Roy.
The White House put out a statement on Wednesday calling Hunter Biden’s remarks “forceful and powerful.”
MACCALLUM: You watch Hunter Biden up there, it seems to me as if he kind of got what he wanted. He wanted a public testimony moment. This, no doubt, would have been his opening statement if this had been an open hearings. But what we didn’t get was to watch Republicans and Democrats question him in this environment. So do you think it was a mistake to not allow him, the public hearing that he asked for? And do you think you’re ever going to get him behind closed doors to testify now?
ROY: Well, the procedures we put in place, we put in place for a reason for all of our witnesses to come forth and have to go through and have a deposition. Then you’re going to have hearings when you get to the next step. But it’s important to note that on the steps of the Capitol, he said an important word. He said his dad didn’t have any involvement “financially.”
MACCALLUM: That’s right.
ROY: Right? He didn’t say it was a blanket, you know, that he wasn’t involved. That’s really important. Hunter Biden is basically an ongoing domino fall of stupid decisions and stupid statements. And we’re seeing that right here. Going to the Capitol and saying his dad wasn’t involved in “financial” dealings. We’ll see if that’s true. But that is a big tell to me.
We all know that his dad was involved in enriching Hunter. We all know that foreign entities were sending millions of dollars to them. We know from whistleblower testimony that they were slow walking the IRS from being able to go after the investigation in 2014 and 2015. We know these things to be true. So, we’re going to have the inquiry today will seek the truth. We’ve been having to do all of the work the Department of Justice refuses to do. And look, we can also hold him in contempt if that’s what we need to do in the House of Representatives, and then see where this process goes. But the sweetheart deal that he got from a judge and then that judge got slapped — I’m sorry that he got from DOJ and then that judge slapped down the deal?
Now we’re seeing the truth. Now you’ve got an indictment where they dance around refusing to actually go after Joe Biden in those years because they’re trying to put this all onto Hunter. But the truth is going to come out to the American people that this is a broad corruption involving the entire Biden family.
MACCALLUM: Well, it is significant, as you mentioned, Congressman, that he said my dad was not involved in the financial part of any of my businesses. Because if people just roll back their memory bank, they remember President Biden on the debate stage saying, you know, my son isn’t involved in any foreign businesses and I have nothing to do with any of his businesses. Then it became, I’m not “in” business with my son, right? It’s, “my dad was not financially involved in business.” Because we’ve seen all of these direct interactions and the phone calls and the shakedown attempt, “my dad’s sitting right next to me right now, you better send us the money” to the Chinese company.
