‘The Nation Has Soured on Joe Biden’: CNN Political Director Breaks Down Crushing Poll
A CNN poll on Tuesday showed that 61% of Americans disapprove of the job President Joe Biden is doing in the White House — data that CNN political director David Chalian said showed “the nation has soured” on Biden.
The CNN poll, which was conducted between Oct. 27 and Nov. 2, asked Americans whether they approved or disapproved of “how Biden is handling his job as president.”
Thirty-nine percent of Americans said that they approved of Biden’s record, while a substantial 61% said they disapproved.
While 77% of Democrats said they approved of Biden’s job as president, just 34% of independents and 5% of Republicans said the same. 72% of Americans also said that things were going “badly” in the United States under Biden, while just 25% said Biden had the “stamina” and “sharpness to serve effectively” as president.
“The country has soured on Joe Biden. There’s just not another way to put it,” reacted Chalian, who noted that Biden’s 39% approval rating one year out from election was below former President Donald Trump’s 41%.
“Biden’s down there between Donald Trump and Jimmy Carter. You may know, that is down in the category of one-term presidents,” said Chalian, who concluded, “He clearly wants to turn that around and he’s got a year to do so.”
Richard Nixon had a 10% higher approval rating than Biden at the same point in his presidency, while Bill Clinton had a 13% higher approval rating. George W. Bush’s approval rating was 15% higher, while George H. W. Bush had a 20% higher approval rating than Biden one year out from the 1992 election, which he lost.
Both Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have consistently polled low in approval ratings. In June, an NBC poll showed that Harris had the lowest approval rating of any vice president in the network’s polling history.
