Trump Called Roseanne Barr To Congratulate Her For Roseanne‘s Massive Ratings

Roseanne Barr received a congratulatory call from perhaps her biggest fan… the President of the United States.

The New York Times reports that Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said that President Trump called the television star Wednesday evening to celebrate her show’s instant success. The Roseanne revival, which premiered Tuesday evening, had 18.2 million viewers tuning in. Such ratings even shocked ABC executives.

According to someone familiar with the call, Trump was “enthralled” by the “huge” ratings, something Trump often points to them as a sign of success for himself and his media allies and mocks his political enemies if their ratings are low.

Roseanne Barr, a vocal Trump supporter, sparked lots of intrigue ahead of the sitcom reboot when it was announced that her character, Roseanne Conner, was also a Trump supporter. The premiere centered the bitter fallout that occurred between her and her sister Jackie (played by Laurie Metcalf), who haven’t spoke since after the 2016 election because of their clashing political differences.

The premiere was full of political humor that invoked Russia, health care, the national anthem protests, the Women’s March, and “fake news.” The show also poked fun at both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.
