In Remarks to Governors, Trump Says ‘Half of You Are So Afraid of the NRA’
During his public remarks today to governors, President Trump said he had lunch over the weekend with several NRA officials, including Wayne LaPierre.
The President expressed some amusement at how the press didn’t find out before saying the people he spoke with “want to do something.”
Trump touted the need for “very strong” background checks while saying, “There’s no bigger fan of the Second Amendment than me and there’s no bigger fan of the NRA. And these guys are great patriots, they’re great people.”
And as an aside at one point, the President said this:
“Don’t worry about the NRA, they’re on our side. You guys––half of you are so afraid of the NRA. There’s nothing to be afraid of. And you know what? If they’re not with you, we have to fight ’em every once in a while. That’s okay. They’re doing what they think is right.”
