A CNN interview of Donald Trump spokesman Sean Spicer became heated Monday over the topic of recent US sanctions on Russia, with Spicer berating New Day host Alisyn Camerota for a series of questions he didn’t like.
The interview first got contentious when Spicer claimed that President Barack Obama did not issue a statement in response to the Chinese hacking of OPM in 2015. Camerota was ready for that line however, and began reading off a statement that Obama did in fact make. (Spicer retorted that Obama’s comments were not an official statement, and were made months after the fact.)
Camerota continue to press Spicer about whether Trump believes that Russia was behind the hack of the DNC during the 2016 presidential election, asking what Trump’s eventual response would look like if the final government report still blamed Russia. “How can you ask me what it looks like when we don’t have a final report?” he shot back.
“The idea that you should be talking a about the the conclusions or actions you’re going to take on a conclusion that you’re not final yet is unbelievably irresponsible…” he continued. “The idea you’re asking anybody what their reaction should be to a non-final report is unbelievable.”
“You’re not making any plans, you guys aren’t even having conversations about the possibility– ?” asked an incredulous Camerota.
“I know it’s frustrating for you that we’re doing it in a logical way,” Spicer jabbed. “But no, we’re going to get all the information, get briefed properly and then make a decision. We’re not going to put the cart before the horse.”
