WATCH: Whoopi Goldberg — Who Has Refused to Speak Trump’s Name On Air For Years — Recoils After She Accidentally Says It

To The View co-host Whoopi Goldberg, the name of former President Donald Trump is tantamount to Voldemort — she dare not speak it. But on Tuesday, the ex-president’s name made it into her mouth, and her reaction to it was visceral.

That is a hyperbolic way to put it, but needless to say, Goldberg did not like that fact that Trump’s name passed her lips while she and the rest of the co-hosts discussed the upcoming presidential debate. As Goldberg talked up President Joe Biden’s advantages as a debater, she went to compare him to Trump without saying the latter’s name… but was unsuccessful:

Goldberg: I think it would be remiss of us to not say Joe Biden knows how to do this. He knows how to do this. He’s quite good at this. And, you know, you can’t refute anything with him because he just — when I say “him,” I mean…

Joy Behar: He rambles. Trump.

Goldberg: Trump. He tends to just… Ugh. [SPITS]

Alyssa Farah Griffin: But, can I mention one thing? Trump is out there–

Sunny Hostin: Did you say his name??

Goldberg: I said his name. It was a trick, and it made me do it. I’m just saying that Biden knows what not to do. You can’t refute that man because he just spins and spins and spins.

Goldberg told David Axelrod on his podcast in 2018 that she refused to say Trump’s name along with the word “President.” She didn’t offer a specific explanation apart from her dislike of Trump’s policies and opinions, especially the birther lie.
