‘We’re Done’: Don Lemon Cannot Hide His Exasperation with Jeffrey Lord

On Thursday, pro-Trump CNN talking head Jeffrey Lord pretty much ruined the network for the entire day when he called President Donald Trump “the Martin Luther King of health care.”

Eliciting groans on at least three different network shows, he argued that the comparison worked because “Dr. King kept putting people in the streets in harm’s way to put the pressure on so that the [civil rights] bill would be introduced,” adding that it was akin to Trump withholding health care payments.

“That’s what finally worked,” Lord added.

The comments became a topic on the network all day (and on MSNBC, as well), but the discussion got particularly heated at the end of CNN Tonight with Don Lemon. After a long discussion, Lemon said he would give Lord the last word. It didn’t go well.

Lord held his ground, saying it was the same strategy Dr. King used. And Lemon couldn’t take it anymore.

“Jeffrey, you haven’t listened to anything we said,” he began, only for Lord to say that “Don, you’re talking liberal to me.”

“No, I’m talking real. I’m talking human,” Lemon continued. “You’re going to sit here on television and tell us that you don’t notice the color. I notice the color of your hair. I notice when someone has red hair. I know you have white hair. I know Simone is wearing white. I know I’m wearing blue. It’s insulting when you’re stating something that is not — that is not in reality. And we’re sitting here…” Then Lord interrupted. “Don, you have to make it reality…”

“Will you let me finish?,” Lemon said, clearly becoming more exasperated by the second.

“Jeffrey, I’m talking to you. Will you let me finish?,” he said. “Dr. King means something different to the people who are sitting here than he meant to you. He wasn’t just a tactic for us. He is a real person who helped me to be able to get here and Symone to be able to sit here, and Selena and for you to come on and give some reckless comparison to his legacy….” Then Lord interrupted again, trying to invoke King’s “You should not be judged by the color of your skin, but by the content of your character” quote.

Lemon ended it there. “Good night. We’re done.”
