‘What Were You Thinking?’: Blitzer Confronts Frum for Serena Williams Steroids Tweets
On CNN this afternoon, Wolf Blitzer asked David Frum what was up with his tweets about Serena Williams. In case you don’t pay close attention to the musings of conservative pundits on tennis champs, here’s what Frum tweeted out after Williams’ big Wimbledon victory:
Steroids? Oh no, no, no. “Body image issues.” http://t.co/40W01g14n7
— David Frum (@davidfrum) July 11, 2015
Serena Williams’ “rivals could try to emulate her physique, but most of them choose not to.” http://t.co/40W01g14n7
— David Frum (@davidfrum) July 11, 2015
The implication being, of course, that she’s juicing. And in since-deleted tweets Frum claims were meant to be part of a DM conversation, he said that Williams is “not above the question,” especially considering past steroid scandals.
TVOne’s Roland Martin called out Frum and faced off with him on the air yesterday, but in the middle of discussing Iran today, Wolf Blitzer actually took a brief moment to bring up the tweets and ask Frum, “What were you thinking?”
Frum briefly explained the issue before saying, “You want to have me back to talk about tennis, we can talk about tennis.” He stayed on the topic of Iran and the conversation continued.
However, as the segment ended, Blitzer brought things back to Frum’s tweets and said “there’s no evidence” that Williams was taking steroids.
