Whoopi Speaks on Bill Cosby’s Charges: ‘I’m Glad’ His Story Will Finally Be Told
The View‘s first 2016 show featured a segment on the sexual assault charges against Bill Cosby. In response, Whoopi Goldberg seemed to try having it both ways with how she was “glad” he will now give his side of the story before a judge.
The segment began with the ladies, particularly Sunny Hostin, expressing surprise that after so many years of allegations and expired statutes of limitations, prosecutors are finally bringing a case against the disgraced comedian. Eventually, Goldberg turned the conversation to how Cosby’s wife Camille will be required to testify on the matter, saying it was good thing to be aired out too, but found the dismissal of marital privilege “extraordinary.”
“Even if you’re the business manager,” Goldberg said, “there’s enough proof that he paid women off. All the paperwork is there, he already admitted to the quaaludes… but do you think that this is being done to embarrass her?”
Hostin responded by pointing out that Mrs. Cosby might have information relevant to the case that should be heard in court in a separate civil case.
Even as damning revelations were brought to light, Goldberg came under massive scrutiny last year for sticking up for Cosby on the grounds he hasn’t been legally declared guilty for his actions. Goldberg eventually changed her tune and acknowledged the evidence against Cosby, but somewhat defended him again today by saying she was glad his story will be put to trial.
“I’m glad it’s happening because I sort of feel like whenever you have people saying this is what happened, this is what happened, this is what happened, I want the court — I want to hear it,” Goldberg said. “I want the courts, I want everybody to be able to ask questions because we’ve heard a lot, but we have not heard anything from his side.”
Goldberg finished off the segment by wondering how the court will find a jury that isn’t “tainted” with negative opinions of Cosby considering how long the allegations against him have floated around.
