Comedian Michael McIntyre has had to cancel a scheduled performance at Southampton’s Mayflower Theatre after undergoing emergency surgery, his team announced on Sunday.
The British funnyman was set to take the stage on Monday night. However, an unforeseen medical procedure to remove kidney stones has left him unable to perform.
“We regret to inform customers that Michael McIntyre will be unable to perform on Monday 4 March at the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton. Unfortunately, Michael has had an operation to remove kidney stones. The show will be rescheduled to a later date which will be announced shortly,” read a statement from McIntyre’s team.
The announcement came just days after McIntyre withdrew from a show in Plymouth due to illness. The cancellation is a setback for McIntyre’s world tour, which has already seen him perform in Australia, New Zealand, and the USA. Despite this, forthcoming dates in Newcastle and Manchester are still on the cards.
McIntyre, 48, garnered fame as one of the BBC’s most-watched TV comedians, his game show, The Wheel, and entertainment series, Michael McIntyre’s Big Night, have consistently drawn massive audiences.
