NBC Reportedly Tracked Down and Fired Producer Who Leaked Lawrence O’Donnell Meltdown

NBC has reportedly hunted down and fired a Today show producer who leaked the video of Lawrence O’Donnell’s now-infamous on-camera meltdown.
The video, which was 8-minutes of the MSNBC anchor absolutely losing it over “insanity in [his] earpiece,” “the hammering,” and “fucking out of control shit,” was sent anonymously to Mediaite in September, and upon publication prompted speculation that it was leaked by NBC top brass to embarrass O’Donnell.
According to Page Six, multiple sources said a “male Today show editor was found to be the culprit who compiled and leaked” the montage of O’Donnell’s August 29 meltdown.
From Page Six:
One source said, “The video of Lawrence O’Donnell was leaked on Sept. 20. The leaker was identified, confronted and fired on Sept. 26. It turned out to be a ‘Today’ show editor who said he did it because he thought it was funny. But it wasn’t exactly the perfect crime — he left a very clear trail.”
The leaker’s identity was not revealed to Page Six, but sources said he “had left a clear digital trail that allowed NBC honchos to track him down.”
After the video was published, O’Donnell apologized for the meltdown on Twitter, but never addressed the ordeal on his show The Last Word.
