Homewrecking GOP Congressman Cops to Cheating After Local Paper Exposes Extramarital Affair
Representative Tim Murphy of Pennsylvania publicly confessed to having an extramarital affair on Wednesday, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
The full-time congressman and part-time homewrecker admitted to scandalous relations with a “personal friend” exactly half his age, as his affair was uncovered when the divorce case of 32-year-old Shannon Edwards was unsealed. The two met when Edwards was helping the congressman on one of his bills — their salacious relationship allegedly began in early 2016.
The affair was made public after the Post-Gazette received a court order allowing for the unsealing of divorce information between Edwards and her soon-to-be ex-husband. Murphy’s lawyer reportedly took objection to this, claiming this information would just be used to “harass him” — the judge ultimately sided with the First Amendment.
“Last year I became involved in an affair with a personal friend… This is nobody’s fault but my own, and I offer no excuses. To the extent that there should be any blame in this matter, it falls solely upon me… I ask the media to respect the privacy of my family. They have done nothing wrong and deserve to be left alone,” said Murphy in a statement per his lawyer.
The 64-year-old congressman has served in the House since 2003 and is now in his eighth term.
