Escorting(accompanying) a fellow/lady to a ball(or the Marine Corps Ball) is classified as going out socially according to the English dictionary, be it platonic or not. The fact that her husband’s consent is required or is being sought, explains everything.

And actually such a PR move like accepting his proposal will not be necessary, considering that we blacks mostly vote like zombies, essentially making Obama and the Democrats “entitled” to the ‘black vote’.
