Bernie Sanders to Betsy DeVos : Would You Be Here If Your Family Didn’t Donate to the GOP?

Senator Bernie Sanders didn’t take long to raise the issue of wealth in questioning Education Secretary nominee Betsy DeVos.

He brought up reports that her family has raised quite a lot of money––$200 million––for the Republican party. DeVos said that’s certainly a “possible” figure in total.

And then Sanders asked this:

“My question is––and I don’t mean to be rude––but do you think if you were not a multibillionaire, if your family has not made hundreds of millions of dollars of contributions to the Republican party, that you would be sitting here today?”

DeVos said she believes she would be because of the dedication she’s made to helping out parents and students over the course of her life.
