Bill O’Reilly: ‘How Much Should The World Do To Save Haiti?’

video

Bill O’Reilly addressed the crisis in Haiti today in an interesting and provocative way. In his opening “Talking Points Memo” entitled “Haiti, Liberalism, and America” asked, among other things, how much should the world do to save the poverty-stricken nation, ravaged yesterday by a major earthquake. The comments had less to do with systemic problems in Haiti and the need for help, and more about the failed efforts of what he called the “nanny state,” which is consistent with O’Reilly’s historically anti-liberal positions.

O’Reilly pointed out that other conservative commentators noted that it took three days for Obama to address the nation after the “underwear bomber” failed on Chrstmas day, and it took only three hours for Obama to address the Haiti disaster. Perhaps its worth noting that nobody died in the failed attack on Northwest 253, and estimates of death in Haiti range from tens to hundreds of thousands?

To O’Reilly’s credit he pointed viewers to his favored charitable organization in Haiti – The Haitian Health Foundation. Information about this charit is below the following video.

The Haitian Health Foundation
The Haitian Health Foundation is a registered charity that aims to improve the lives of the poor and infirm in the greater Jeremie area of Haiti with a focus on women and children. They offer a variety of services including safe motherhood services, self-help programs, outpatient clinics, public outreach programs and also responding to emergencies and crises with humanitarian relief.

In 2008, economists Michael Clemens and Lant Pritchett strongly endorsed liberalized international migration flows to solve the worlds problems (move everyone to the USA).

Not surprised that O’Reilly lacks empathy for the death of possibly hundreds of thousands of black-skinned people. Talk about being a complete low-life by spinning it into some form of anti-liberal tirade. HEY O’REILLY: Haiti, like Sudan, is a CONSERVATIVE PARADISE. People are forced to learn how to read and write by themselves instead of being “forced” it by the government!!! Home schooling is the way to go!

Anyways, not surprised to see O’Reilly politicize this. He’s not got a single compassionate bone in his body.

    M says,

You know he might have a point if you would get your head out of your liberal dogma and actually
listen. We’ve put in over 1 billion dollars into Haiti and it hasn’t done jack for its people. Will we
help them now? Yes but don’t expect ANYTHING to change for them until some outside force
    changes it.

Since “we” NEED to make the decisions for all the TAXPAYERS – in the US – WHY NOT the WORLD?\
    Isn’t this the “GOAL” ..??..

@Fidhooki – Actually, that billion dollars had a good effect, starting Haiti towards a more stable government and improved infrastructure. True, Haiti has had its issues and certainly had a long way to go, however, in the face of a tragedy like this, it is just plain wrong to start the political spitball contest across the face of this disaster.

O’Reilly could not have been more wrong if he wanted to be. He just picked up the same, tired old partisan (used by BOTH sides) playbook and read the indicated page. I tend to think that O’Reilly is actually a much more compassionate man than that, but he, like all of the pundits everywhere is too caught up in the hurling of flaming spitballs to recognize when it is time to stop the bickering and do what America does best – ride to the rescue.

The comparison between the failed bombing on Christmas day the the death of untold thousands is just wrong.

To be really fair, it is only a matter of time until Matthews pulls the race card on anyone that doesn’t donate.

We have now reached the point as a nation where literally everything goes into the bitter partisan sifter and ends up fodder for more flaming spitballs of nonsense. No issue or event can be discussed anymore without the bitter rancor that has been growing for years.

Bottom line – untold thousands are dead and millions are suffering. Politicizing this tragedy is as wrong as wrong can be and shame on anyone that does. O’Reilly can now join Robertson on the official humanity wall of shame.

I agree about not politicizing this but was that what O’ Reilly intended or was he just being
realistic about the situation? I may not like it but what he said could be the truth. If ti is, lying
or ignoring it doesn’t do anyone any good at all.
