CPAC Source Cites Christie’s ‘Limited Future’ In GOP As Reason For Snub
When it was revealed that New Jersey Governor Chris Christie was among the short list of prominent Republicans not invited to the annual CPAC event, conservative commentators on and others suspected that the “out of touch” omission “wasn’t an accident.” Now, an unnamed CPAC source has confirmed those suspicions.
The National Review is reporting that an anonymous “source familiar with CPAC’s internal deliberations” told them it is primarily Christie’s support of gun control legislation that led to group to leave him out. The source added that Christie’s reaction to the Newtown shooting, including calling the NRA “reprehensible” led CPAC to believe he has a “limited future” in the Republican Party.
So which Republicans does CPAC see having a bright future in the GOP? This year’s invited speakers include 2016 presidential prospects Senators Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Rand Paul (R-KY) along with Governor Bobby Jindal (R-LA). And one more person whose future is apparently not “limited” enough to prevent him from obtaining a CPAC invitation? Mitt Romney.
