GOP Candidate Compares Republicans to an Old Car in Bizarre Campaign Ad
We’re only three days in and already have a candidate for strangest campaign ad of the year. Rodney Lee Conover is a Republican running for Congress in California’s 8th district, but his newest ad involves an almost two-minute-long metaphor on why House Republicans are like an old, washed-up 1972 Ford Ranchero. A 1972 Ford Ranchero that Conover actually used in the scene, just to really hammer home the imagery of the metaphor.
Conover loves his 1972 Ford Ranchero. “It’s great,” he says. “It’s all I ever wanted.” He then goes on to explain why it’s now just old and unreliable, kinda like Republicans in Congress.
“Like some Republicans in Congress, it’s unreliable, just doesn’t do what you want any more. Can’t put the trust of your family in this car either because, at the most critical moment, don’t know what it’s going to do… It’s nothing personal, this was a great car in its day, but now she’s old. It’s got to be retired. This car has to go.”
Oh, and his dog is in the ad for some reason, and the ad ends with Conover kneeling down in front of the car with the pooch squirming in his hands.
