Marco Rubio On TIME Cover: ‘There Is Only One Savior, And It Is Not Me’

Senator Marco Rubio has had a busy week. He was officially tapped to deliver the Republican response to President Obama‘s State of the Union, and now he is getting featured on the cover of this week’s TIME as the “Republican savior” and the “new voice of the GOP.” Rubio downplayed the size of his role in the Republican party, tweeting that he’s not the savior because that position has already been filled.

Rubio has been increasingly vocal about what he believes the future of the GOP needs to be, and in some circles he is being touted as one of the young pragmatists who are going to help the party recover from its 2012 loss (as well as a potential 2016 candidate). But following TIME‘s release of its cover story, Rubio released the following tweet this morning.

TIME playfully shot back at Rubio, tweeting “Point taken, but we just said you’re the ‘Republican savior.'”
