New York Times Obtains 1983 ‘Beach Week’ Letter from Kavanaugh: ‘We’re Loud, Obnoxious Drunks’

Despite Supreme Court justice nominee Brett Kavanaugh claiming that his high school yearbook references to vomiting were about his weak stomach and not drinking, a letter written in the early 1980s by the now-judge bragged about he and his friends’ inebriated puking abilities.
“It would probably be a good dea on Sat. the 18th to warn the neighbors that we’re loud, obnoxious drunks with prolific pukers among us. Advise them to go about 30 miles,” wrote a high school aged Kavanaugh in a letter preparing an Ocean City, Maryland beach getaway with his fellow Georgetown Prep classmates, according to the New York Times.
While the teasing remark about throwing up due to alcohol overconsumption is typical for high school aged males, it is now under heavy scrutiny as Kavanaugh allegedly sexually assaulted Christine Blasey Ford while drunk when the two were in high school. Kavanaugh denies these claims.
He has since responded to inquiries into his underage drinking by saying that he never blacked out and claiming jokes about his vomiting had to do with his dislike of spicy food.
Another notable comment made by Kavanaugh in the letter includes seeming sexual innuendos about the young women he and his classmates wished to pursue while at the beach.
“Our problem [at the beach] might be too many people. We’re going to have to decide while we are there who we want and don’t want,” Kavanaugh wrote. “I think we are unanimous that any girls we can beg to stay there are welcomed with open…. Anyway I think we’re all set.”
“This week has big potential. (Interpret as wish),” Kavanaugh added in the letter, before signing it, “FFFFF, Bart.”
Kavanaugh claims “FFFFF” was an inside joke about a friend who over-pronounced the “f” in “fuck.” His sign-off, “Bart,” is the same name used by Mark Judge — his high school classmate and the alleged witness of the assault — in his memoir about teenage alcoholism, in-which a “Bart O’Kavanaugh” is mentioned for drunkenly vomiting in a car.
When asked about the memoir, Kavanaugh told the Senate that they would “have to ask” Judge about the character.
The Times report also notes that an anonymous Georgetown Prep classmate contacted the FBI because he believes Kavanaugh is being dishonest about the extent of his high school drinking. Numerous other classmates told the Times that they witnessed Kavanaugh and his friends participate in binge-drinking episodes that left them stumbling.
The right-wing blog site The Federalist obtained a copy of the letter prior to the Times publishing, as they released a post warning about a “hit piece” against the judge.
