Maggie Haberman: Trump Has Been Afraid of Roger Stone ‘For Years’

President Donald Trump lost it on the New York Times’ Maggie Haberman on Saturday afternoon, over a piece the reporter wrote about concerns that Michael Cohen might cooperate with federal investigators.

Haberman’s piece detailed Trump’s longtime mistreatment of his personal lawyer, whose home and office were raided by the FBI last week. Despite Cohen’s professed loyalty to the president, the Times reported that Trump’s legal team fears he might “flip.”

Trump fired back at the report in a Saturday morning tweetstorm, insulting Haberman and defending Cohen.

The president also took a veiled shot at one of Haberman’s sources for the report, who he described as a “drunk/drugged up loser.”

Haberman says that’s a reference to Sam Nunberg, the former Trump campaign aide whose televised rebuke of a grand jury subpoena issued as part of the Russia probe led many to conclude — including his “mentor” Roger Stone – that he was abusing alcohol and possibly cocaine.

Haberman also quoted Stone in the story, who remarked on Trump’s treatment of Cohen: “Donald goes out of his way to treat him like garbage.”

Reacting to Trump’s Twitter attacks, Haberman confirmed that the president is referring to Nunberg, while noting that he is “too aware of what Stone could do to him to be that direct”:
