Oops: Secret Service Tweets – Then Deletes – Criticism Of Fox News

Running a professional Twitter account can be difficult enough as it is – you have to strike a balance between informing your followers, keeping them engaged, and making sure your content is original and relevant rather than so much white noise cluttering people’s Twitter feeds. But that all becomes doubly challenging when whomever is running your professional, official Twitter account has his or her own, personal account as well because, sometimes, the wires can get crossed.

That might be what happened to whomever was in charge of Tweeting for the Secret Service’s official Twitter account recently. “Had to monitor Fox for a story,” the Tweet read. “Can’t. Deal. With. The. Blathering.” Totes. Profesh.

ShortFormBlog chronicles Tumblr reaction to the offending Tweet, which was almost immediately deleted:

The account is a mere 9 days old. Growing pains, perhaps?

Don’t blame them, I would hate having to hear their inane BS all the time too.

  • CAINtheBULL

hahaha. What time was it? hahaha. The Fox morning show crew seems to fit that tweet.

  • Zandandido

I guess the war between Fox News and the White House is back on. He also can’t deal with high ratings either.

  • lane

I find this doubtful. Secret Service is very conservartive, as is law enforcement in general. They watch FNC like the rest of the world. Sounds like a prank..

  • felixw

The Secret Service runs a Twitter account? Was this some kind of stimulus project?

I hope it is a prank, for more than one reason. The major reason is that NO active secret service should EVER had a twitter account. Like this “Secret Service agents tweets: helping a foreign leader out to ‘blank’ street and ‘blank’ street in ‘blank city, USA’ at ‘blank’ time on ‘blank day’. Every President/Prime Minister/Foreign leader in the world has enemies. This is a security issue, more than a Fox News/White House issue.

Put some cop killer rap on in the background while you watch Fox , Tweeter-boy .

That’s what King Obama does .

  • Jaurez

Obama is paying secret service to monitor Fox News? Just wow…

  • Tedderman

Boy it sucks when the truth slips out, eh lil’ foxies.

Guess the same goes with MSNBC, CNN, and HLN. Fox’s high ratings really does getting up in the morning a painful procedure.

The official secret service twitter account is verified. The account from which this tweet came from does not have the trademark verification sign.

Move along people, nothing to see here.

I don’t know whether someone may have faked the tweet, but the linked account is verified.

And, I know that I’ve occasionally been served obviously personal links from verified news accounts, which were quickly deleted and blamed on misclicking TweetDeck, plus sometime in the past several months, I recall a story of an Congressperson’s intern making a similar mistake.

My guess is that an intern or low level employee monitors the account and they just misclicked.

PS – Toward the idea that the tweet may not be real…

Of course if it was almost instantly deleted deleted, it may not have been seen by a spider, so this proves nothing, but the errant tweet isn’t coming up using Google: Realtime and I’ve been operating under the assumption that tweets are cached.

oh yeah, Fox blathering. I’m sure we’d all much rather listen to the calm intelligence of an Ed Schultz instead.

  • OxyCon

Is it really a good idea for the agency responsible for protecting the President to be tweeting at all? WTH information do they even have to add except the President’s whereabouts?

Um…have you ever watched “Fox & Friends”? The inanity is mindboggling. Those three work very hard to be that frakkin’ stupid.

Well, at least Karl “knows what show he’s on”. His brand of humor is patently obvious – sarcasm.

I know it’s hard, not having a sense of humor, being Bitter all.the.time. and just not finding enough hours in the day to loathe obama as you do and express it.

  • Bill Huggins

    Secret Service should THANK FOX

They probably had to hire lots of extra workers because of Fox’s anti-Obama screeds.

  • Bill Huggins

People at the Secret Service HAVE JOBS because of Fox post-Jan 20th 2009.

  • Mas Liberty5

I’m not real impressed with the USSS, although they do have professionals working there.

Be very wary of powerful government agents.

More blathering. So you’re saying the USSS would have disbanded after The One was elected? After 146 years? How many sets of kneepads do you wear out worshipping?

  • X-3

They got caught. The SS also harangued a youngster who said that -0bama should be careful after UBL was whacked. Police State? Freedom of Speech usurped? It’s gettin’ there folks, it’s gettin’ there.

  • White Ninja

Why in the name of all that is good and holy does the secret service need a Twitter account?

  • mlb

I highly doubt this could be real and if it is. Talk about a paranoid President. Taxpayers get that you need to protect yourself, but really Obama, your own personal clear up crew or personal hit list collectors -… I am sure there is a better use of time then watching Fox. Then again they seem to be the network not kissing your hiney, and providing a different angle to every story. Must be trying to figure out who to pick on for the next election cycle?

How does the concept of “secret” elude a “Secret” Service agent? Why on earth would they be charged with monitoring FOX news? Where would you find a threat to the President’s safety at FOX? There might be threats to his popularity, but that’s hardly a Secret Service matter. This sounds like a misappropriation of SS time.

The relevant portion of the statement given to ABC News: “Our public affairs employees monitor all the news channels throughout the day for stories that effect the Secret Service.”

Yes, you are right. I should put more thought into my comments and put forth a well-reasoned argument directed at the issue at hand…kinda’ like you did….not.

But you read it anyway. Nice try…you don’t even insult well.
