Overkill? New York Post Blasts Anthony Weiner For Buying Cheap Flowers

For the segment of the NY population whose thirst of anti-Weiner vitriol has not yet been properly slaked, we present the following report from the NY Post. It seems that recently disgraced (and former House Representative) Anthony Weiner not only has a lot of free time on his hands now that he has resigned, but that he recently purchased flowers for his pregnant wife Huma from a local bodega. The outrage? They were cheap flowers. For shame!

Writing for the NY Post, Don Kaplan reports:

The disgraced former congressman was spotted outside his Queens home yesterday toting a bouquet of cheap flowers for Huma Abedin, his pregnant spouse who endured weeks of lurid revelations about her husband’s sexting. He spent a whopping $22.97 on them at a bodega, according to the iPad publication The Daily.

But the gesture won’t work, experts told The Post.

“It’s ridiculous, and it could make her angrier,” said Elayne Rapping, a professor of American Studies at SUNY Buffalo. “He knows there are photographers and reporters outside of his house. He could have easily called up a florist and had flowers delivered to her — this seems to be more of a gesture for the press than for her. A way of him saying, ‘I’m being a good husband.’ “

Read the entire write up here, but I’m reminded of a scene from an episode of The Simpsons in which Homer has taken a side job as Krusty the Clown, and unfamiliar with the ways of Krusty Burger, ruthlessly attacks a “hamburgler” character that comes to steal some product. An innocent child upset by Homer’s relentless brutality screams “stop! he’s already dead!”

Come on, media.

The guy screwed up and exposed himself as a sleazebucket. He lost his prestigious job, was publicly humiliated in every way imaginable (including the sudden avalanche of puns about his name which, oddly enough, had been the same all along but the media didn’t seem to notice before this incident) and you know his family and friends are cringing about this.

And now you wanna gripe about the flowers he’s buying?

This bears out my theory that much of today’s media are psuedo-intellectual bullies, not journalists. Here’s a note to them:

He lost. He lost big. Move on. I’m sure there is someone else out there you can help destroy. Oh, LOOK! MICHELLE BACHMANN!!!

Only snobs would not give the guy credit for the thought. And truth be told, those bodega flowers sometimes last at least as long as the more expensive florist bought ones. Time to move on to real news.

This is not the last from the Post going after Anthony Wiener because he is going to re-emerge in a few years just like Eliot Spitzer did. The reason why he will reemerge: Americans love to hear a comeback story. If nothing gets posted this summer about Anthony Weiner,then there will be something in the Post about him by the end of the year. The Reason: the tabloids like the Post wants to see his child when it is born and will surely take photos of him carrying it on the streets of Queens. He has to watch his pennies right now because he is not a millionaire and is a soon-to-be father, so Huma probably would not mind the cheap flowers.

OMG – stop the presses! I think I about to agree with Skyfet!!!!!!!!

Not to harp on the Jewish heritage thing, but it does make one wonder how he married into a very strong prominent muslim family. His mother-in-law is extremely active in the muslim brotherhood.
As far as buying flowers- lay off … the guy is desperate.

It’s easy to use the phone to call up a florist who does the arrangement, but it takes a caring person to go down to the vendor with flowers, pick out some and create your own bouquet.

It is time to let this story go and let this couple work on their relationship.
