Trump Reportedly Treats Michael Cohen ‘Like Garbage,’ Threatened to Fire Him Multiple Times

Nobody said working for President Donald Trump was easy — but imagine having your job threatened on multiple occasions by your boss, who reportedly goes out of his way to belittle and disrespect you at every turn.

That appears to be the relationship between the commander in chief and his longtime personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, who has said he would “take a bullet” for Trump. The New York Times reported on the pair’s relationship in a piece published Friday, as speculation swirled as to whether or not the attorney would forego his loyalty to the president and cooperate with federal authorities after having his home and offices raided.

The Times spoke with half a dozen people familiar with the way Trump treated Cohen throughout their working relationship, including Roger Stone, who said “Donald goes out of his way to treat him like garbage.”

Over the years, Mr. Trump threatened to fire Mr. Cohen over deals that didn’t work out, or snafus with business projects, people who were present for the discussions said. He was aware that Mr. Cohen benefited in other business projects as being seen as affiliated with the Trump Organization, and it irked him.

“He clearly doesn’t think that Michael Cohen is his Roy Cohn,” said Tim O’Brien, a Trump biographer, referring to Mr. Trump’s former mentor and the president’s ideal for a pit bull-like defender. “I think his abusive behavior to Michael is animated by his feeling that Michael is inadequate.”

Now, the tables may have turned on Trump after federal officials seized countless documents from Cohen’s possession in relation to his work as an attorney for a very limited list of clientele, including the president and Fox News’ Sean Hannity.

What information those documents obtain about Trump — his gag orders on porn stars, information about the infamous Access Hollywood tapes and more are all reported to be included in the material — could have tremendous consequences as the investigation into Cohen continues.

“The president has also taken Michael for granted,” Sam Nunberg, a former aide to Trump, told NYT. “Whenever anyone complains to me about Trump screwing them over, my reflective response is that person has nothing to complain about compared to Michael.”
