Twitter Reacts to Trump’s Stunning Withdrawal From Iran Nuclear Deal: ‘Pathological Liar’ is ‘Playing With Fire’

The Twitterverse was thrown into high gear on Tuesday after Donald Trump confirmed that America is walking away from the Iran nuclear deal.
While the president’s choice isn’t a surprise to anyone familiar with his rhetoric, the decision will have major implications for international diplomacy and hopes for peace in the Middle East. In his official announcement, Trump blasted the deal as a disastrous relic of the Obama Administration that will never stop the development of nuclear weapons.
Since the Iran nuclear deal has been a flashpoint of controversy for years, the reactions on Twitter have been mixed. Conservative figures and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu were delighted by today’s announcement:
God bless the United States of the America and the Constitution thereof. https://t.co/YlFzaxAJSl

Excellent, clear speech. One of the strongest moments of Trump’s presidency.

Once again @realDonaldTrump keeps a promise. Iran deal is deader than Osama Bin Laden. I’m in Israel right now and there is gratitude for a US President who stands up FOR allies and stands up TO enemies. Refreshing!

Getting out of the Iran deal was the right decision. The Iran deal destabilized the Middle East and allowed Iran access to capital to fund terrorism.

“This was a one-sided deal that should have never, ever been made.” Trump announces the US is exiting the sham of an Iran (non)deal.

NEW: Benjamin Netanyahu: “Israel fully supports Pres. Trump’s bold decision” to withdraw U.S. from Iranian nuclear deal.
“Rather than blocking Iran’s path to a bomb, the deal actually paves Iran’s path to an entire arsenal of nuclear bombs.” https://t.co/f1OBTp25x0 pic.twitter.com/N80bNhuPFV

However, the president still has no shortage of critics, and many of them can’t see today’s decision ending well:
Trump has now widened the scope of US conflict with our closest allies from trade/tariffs to Iran confrontation/sanctions

The only principle that seems to be at work in Trump pulling the U.S. out of the Iran deal is that if President Obama did it, it must be undone, and Trump will somehow “renegotiate” it and do it better. Not unlike his approach to every domestic achievement of the 44th POTUS.

there is zero explanation how we are supposed to get the better deal now. Iran has its money, our allies are in the deal and its economy is better now than before. If Iran resumes we are faced with either war or countenancing

When do I get an apology from all the gullible libertarians who voted for Trump thinking he wouldn’t get us involved in more war in the Middle East. I told you he’s a pathological liar and will do whatever people with money tell him to do. Now playing with fire in Iran. #NeoCon

As @paulwaldman1 points out, Trump had no idea what was in the Iran deal he just pulled out of, and he has no idea what to do now:https://t.co/o5VyQmBGuq

How can Trump say that the “people of America” stand with Iranians when he’s “instituting the highest level of economic sanctions” on their country in hopes it leads to regime change?
— Holly Dagres (@hdagres) May 8, 2018
Trump’s merging two arguments: One against the initial deal, one for pulling out of it now. But even some major critics of the deal itself argue it’s counterproductive to leave now that Iran has already received sanctions relief and allies are locked in.

Not the least significant critic is French President Emmanuel Macron, who spent the last few weeks working with world leaders in a doomed effort to convince Trump not to abandon the deal:
France, Germany, and the UK regret the U.S. decision to leave the JCPOA. The nuclear non-proliferation regime is at stake.
