Michael Moore Tells College Students ‘It Will Require A Rumble’ To Fix America
During a talk to promote his new book, Here Comes Trouble, liberal firebreather Michael Moore told an audience of college students at Bunker Hill Community College to “reject this vision of America that has been thrust upon us,” and that to fix it “will require a rumble.”
According to his blog, Moore was urging a “nonviolent rumble of citizen participation,” although it’s unclear whether he made such a disclaimer during his remarks.
Jon Stewart: Ending Of GOP Inspirational Film The Town Isn’t Flattering To Tea Party
Because it’s impossible not to, much of the media pointed and laughed at the news that House Majority Whip Rep. Kevin McCarthy used a clip from the Ben Affleck film The Town to inspire them to vote on the Boehner bill. Tonight, Jon Stewart wondered whether the ones who actually got any inspiration from the clip had actually seen the end of the film, because the analogy was not so flattering to the Tea Party.
Lawrence O’Donnell: GOP The Town Screening ‘Exhorts Every Republican To Go Commit Violent Sin’
House Majority Whip Rep. Kevin McCarthy hosted a private screening of a clip of the Ben Affleck film The Town to get Republicans riled up for the debt vote this week– a wacky move, certainly, and one riddled with questions given its violent nature. Tonight, Lawrence O’Donnell donned his best native Bostonian accent to explain why the anti-Christian message of “go commit violent sin” was probably not a good idea– so bad, in fact, that Affleck himself had to speak out and recommend a different film.
Compliment Or Repudiation? Ben Affleck And DNC Dismiss GOP’s Use Of The Town As Motivation
As we reported yesterday, House Republicans were treated to a special presentation by Rep. Kevin McCarthy during a party meeting to figure out how to sort out the debt ceiling crisis, where members viewed a clip from Ben Affleck‘s The Town in an attempt to unite the party behind John Boehner‘s plan. The response was [...]
House GOP Leaks Story Of Debt Ceiling Motivational Tool: Ben Affleck’s The Town?
Set phasers on “dork!” Attendees at a closed-door meeting of House Republicans Tuesday told Washington Post reporters that there was all kinds of unity behind Rep. John Boehner‘s debt ceiling plan, and related a nerdtastic anecdote by way of illustration. House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) reportedly psyched up his colleagues by playing a short clip from “The Town,” a 2010 gangster movie about bank robbers in Boston. It gets goofier from there.
Robbers Dressed As Nuns Rob Chicago Bank, Just Like Ben Affleck’s Movie ‘The Town’
Two bank robbers dressed as nuns–and carrying handguns–raided a suburban Chicago bank Sunday afternoon, in a heist seemingly inspired by the 2010 movie “The Town.” According to ABC News, the robbery may have been the work of a man-and-woman team who hit the TCF bank in Palos Heights, Illinois just as the bank was preparing to close. “The individuals came in and took over the bank, instructing tellers to do what the say or be harmed,” ABC quotes an FBI spokeswoman. No shots were fired and nobody was hurt.
Rachel Maddow: Cheney Book Cover ‘Pictorially Makes Him The Guy Who Killed Bin Laden’
Dick Cheney‘s new book has a spiffy new cover out, depicting the former vice president looking stately in the White House. That image, from the East Room lighting down to the position of the flag on Cheney’s lapel, has Rachel Maddow feeling a bit of deja vu, and a little bit of outrage, as the picture looks exactly like the image of President Barack Obama announcing that American troops had killed Osama bin Laden.
Political Odd Couple Connect In The Congo: Ben Affleck And Cindy McCain
Ben Affleck recently got Cindy McCain on the phone–and it wasn’t a misdial. McCain, of course, figured she was getting Punk’d. “She thought it was a prank call,” Affleck told ABC’s Jake Tapper, in a story set to air on tonight’s World News.
That call, Affleck says, was an invitation for McCain to join the actor on a trip designed to get attention for the suffering of the people in Congo, an issue the two will testify about tomorrow on Capitol Hill. “Politics doesn’t have anything to do with this. This is about human lives,” McCain said.
NY Post Unfairly Attacks Olbermann In Explaining His Departure
The NY Post‘s Andrea Peyser offers an interesting explanation for Keith Olbermann‘s departure from MSNBC that has not been heard since he left 10 days ago: she blames Ben Affleck. As we’ve outlined before, there seems to have been numerous factors at play in the split between MSNBC and the firebrand host, but to air out a litany of allegations and somehow link them back to his dismissal from MSNBC seems to be entirely unfair.
Hooters CEO Doesn’t Understand Why His Manager is a Pig
On last night’s episode of Super Bowl lead-out “Undercover Boss,” Coby Brooks, the President and CEO of Hooters learned some important lessons via covert mingling with his rank-and-file. Of particular interest was his “confrontation” with douchebag Hooters manager Jimbo, which has been heavily teased in the show’s promos. Jimbo makes his Hooters girls perform demeaning acts to go home early, as Brooks looks on in shock.
Where did this guy ever get the idea he could treat women that way?
Jon Stewart Takes on Keith Olbermann One Day Too Early
This is what happens when your late-night show tapes at 5 in the afternoon. Last night Jon Stewart took on Keith Olbermann‘s 3-day Scott-war against the newly-elected Republican Senator from Massachusetts, incinerating the Countdown host’s Special Comment segment along the way. In a case of life imitating art, Olbermann parodied the Special Comment hours after Stewart taped his takedown, saying that yesterday’s Supreme Court decision legalizing corporate campaign contributions was worse than the Dred Scott decision.
