Alec Baldwin Tries Cakes In Regional Grocery Chain Commercials

NBC Kabletown executive Jack Donaghy is the kind of guy who does his holiday shopping at Christie’s. But Alec Baldwin isn’t a Jack Donaghy, he just plays one on TV. So he’s not above doing a pair of low-budget commercials for regional supermarket chain Wegmans. The somewhat disorienting ads have the 30 Rock star trying cakes (“Let’s have one of each!”), discussing family, and harping about the price of coffee in New York.
Some are confounded as to why someone of Baldwin’s stature is doing ads for the regional grocer, especially since there are so many lower-caliber Baldwin brothers who could do the job. But as the Syracuse Post-Standard reports, he’s given all the money from his appearance to the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund. The fund is named after Baldwin’s mother, a breast cancer survivor who shops at Wegmans. So, long story short, Alec Baldwin is a good son.
Watch the Letterman anecdote that inspired the ad and the original commercial below:
