Anderson Cooper Describes Getting “Pummeled” To Letterman: “I Don’t Recommend It”

video

CNN’s Anderson Cooper visited David Letterman‘s Late Night, and the chat, of course, turned to Cooper high profile “pummeling” at the hands of pro-Mubarak thugs in Cairo. “I don’t recommend it,” Cooper told Letterman. “I’d never been hit in the head before.”

Cooper also revealed that his attempt to calm the angry crowd during the attack didn’t quite work out as planned. Thinking he was using the Arabic word for “peace,” Cooper realized later he had been telling his attackers “God willing.” He told Letterman it was “sort of stupid.”

Glad to have you safely back, Anderson. You did a great job as you did in Haiti and New Orleans.

Anderson, how long are you gonna milk this for?

Did you see what Palkot and the FOX tech with him looked like? That’s pummeled!
    Were they on David Letterman?

The “I got slapped in the head” publicity tour. Knowing Dave’s politics, don’t expect to see Palkot on “Late Night” anytime soon.

Apparently not as long as Baal-o is going to recollect his interview.

Fairness might well dictate that, but Anderson is a celebrity with more than a bit of star power. I’m guessing were it Shep, on the heels of his appearance in the Tommy Lee Jones blockbuster, “Volcano”, he’d be on Letterman.

At any rate, Palkot is a good journalist, far better than his network, and I suspect he and Letterman have much in common. In fact, Palkot is probably the more urbane and sophisticated of the two. In a very good way, he just doesn’t have an engaging personality. Down to business. Professional.

Anderson does NOT like to be “Bitch Slapped,’ but that “Teabagging,” well that is a whole different story!

Ya I loved it when Anderson said “It’s hard to talk when your teaba@@ing”. My first thought was… “Well he would know.”

I guess that’s my point. I just didn’t realize it till you phrased it that way. Anderson is a “celebrity” with star power. The son of a Vanderbuilt and more interested in being videoed in these places because he thinks that makes him a powerful, get your hands dirty jurno. But to me he just comes off like a soft, pretty boy, trying to prove he something beyond the family money. Beyond the actual shots of the disaster areas, does he bring ANY new info to the table when he goes to these places? I don’t think so. And look what happen the ONE tome it actually got slightly dangerous… he brought him Vanderbuilt butt home. Is he still trying to make Gloria proud or something?

Oh ya… and I though his teaba@@ing comment was totally douchy. :)

    No he does not.

Totally inappropriate. I have complained to him and to CNN about it. For what that’s worth ….

It is NOT worth much….King, you are part of the problem…like all lefties, you knew calling people from the Tea Party “Teabaggers” was wrong then….however you didn’t have the cojones to stand up and say so.

Months later, saying it was wrong is like the little mouse that roared – no one hears you.

Anderson’s appearance on Letterman was in totally bad taste. He should not be joking about the situation in Egypt. The Egyptian people and those journalists that were courageous enough to stay are still in danger.

I guess because he high tailed it out of Egypt he thinks he can joke about it, but when that mob was closing in on him, even with his bodyguard protecting him, he was so terrified he went into hiding for three days.

I did not vote for Bush, but Anderson should have reminded Letterman that Cheney is no longer VP and that Obama’s VP Joe Biden, refused to call Mubarak a dictator, but he didn’t. He just let Letterman continue his Bush bashing without criticizing the Obama administration for their delayed reaction to the Egyptian demonstrations.

This is just one more reason why Cooper is losing viewers. Who gives a crap about what he has to say to Letterman – he is either a serious journo or he is a celebrity, he ain’t both, and he has chosen which role he wants to play – he wants to entertain not report the news as a serious journolist.

Cooper should have not have this and made light of those journalists who really suffered, like Palkott and Wiig. Cooper just got his hair tossled a bit.

Shame on him, shame on CNN, shame on Letterman.

I won’t be tuning in any time soon to see this celebrity pretend he is a journalist. No thanks

@tatboy, “But to me he just comes off like a soft, pretty boy, trying to prove he something beyond the family money. Unfortunately, you have summed it up pretty well. One correction, Anderson has been in danger before in places like Bosnia, but he didn’t cut and run. However, his quest to become a celebrity now overrides almost every story he does, no matter how serious. In my opinion, he tried to be a serious journalist when he worked for Channel One, 20/20, and even during his coverage of the tsunami in Sri Lanka and during Katrina, but after that, everything changed. Either he or CNN decided to make him the focus of the story, by dressing him in designer clothing and playing up his looks. Now he is an elitist interested in only how he can impress his mother and his celebrity friends.

If he had wanted to seriously discuss his experiences in Egypt he should have gone on Charlie Rose where the audience can at least find Egypt on a map and know the meaning of the word dictatorship.

  • Leckan

Well, if he would read work that other journalists are doing, visiting the pyramids for example and speaking to the people there he would’ve known that many people who were tired of not having tourists attacked the demonstrants. They probably didn’t make up all of the people, but blaming on secret police and thugs only is wrong.
