Bill O’Reilly And Panel’s Heated Debate On Rapper Common’s White House Appearance

Video

Bill O’Reilly brought on a panel to discuss the White House’s decision to invite rapper Common to a poetry event. As you may be aware, some on the right have criticized the choice, even prompting a response from White House press secretary Jay Carney about the resulting kerfuffle.

Panel member Leslie Marshall, a liberal radio host, told O’Reilly that while she didn’t want to come across as a “real white nerd” or anything, her research into rap indicates that Common is not a “gangster” or a “thug,” and has done charitable works in addition to addressing some complex social issues in his songs. Alicia Menendez, a senior adviser at progressive think tank NDN, added that, at the risk of also “nerding out,” she believes it’s a mistake to conflate a rapper with the content of his songs. Common is the “golden boy of rap,” she added, and was discussing “cop killing” in a song because it’s an important issue, not necessarily because he endorses it.

O’Reilly, for one, wasn’t buying that distinction, at least not in Common’s case:

People hear about this and understand who the killers are, and that this man is telling his fans that the killers didn’t get justice, it’s disastrous for President Obama. Don’t you understand that?

O’Reilly then took umbrage with Melendez’s assertion that former White House guest Eric Clapton‘s lyrics were also problematic, because they have referenced drug use and… well. There’s “I Shot the Sheriff.”

“I don’t know who to give the last word to,” said a flummoxed O’Reilly. “You’re both crazy.”

I wish they would have invited Gil Scott Heron.

O’Reilly is closed minded old man pandering to his old white viewers.

Eric Clapton didn’t write “I Shot the Sheriff”. Bob Marley did.

Seriously, Alicia… Eric Clapton is a “cop-killer” because he sang “I Shot the Sheriff?” LOL @ liberals and moral equivalency.. and oh, yeah, stupidity. Figures she belongs to a liberal “think” tank.

The most dismissive, divisive, haughty President is once again telling us that he does what he wants to, when he wants to and who he wants to do it with.

Hopefully we all remember this is 2012. He’s acting like the White House is a Monarchy and we have absolutely no say in anything that happens there. Bad form and bad p.r.

  • http://www.zazzle.com/talkingpoints NORBIT Jr.

O’Reilly had PROOF Associated Press FIXEDE the poll showing 60% Obama approval…they used 35% Dems and 18% GOP respondents, and LIED about it!

OBAMA IS MEDIA CREATED & PROTECTED!

Vote against the failed policies of the Democrats – and their European Socialism.

With the help of Common, New Jersey Cops will be able to better understand the Black culture.

    Cops behaving badly.

“A massive dragnet for the fugitive accused of killing a New Jersey cop ended early Sunday Jan 16 when the suspect was nabbed in hardscrabble Camden, authorities said.

Jahmell Crockam, 19, was hunted by more than 100 cops across three states after Lakewood Patrolman Christopher Matlosz was shot to death in the driver’s seat of his squad car about 4 p.m. Friday.”

Oh by the way, that A/P Obama 60% poll. Total bullshit according to their own attached data.

The survey included 60% dems and only 30% Republicans. The actual approval for B is only 30%.

This is FNC, not W.B.A.I. (99.5) I think O’Reilly wants to put somebody on that has a career going though I did find this interesting piece Mr. Heron said about Rappers.

“They need to study music. I played in several bands before I began my career as a poet. There’s a big difference between putting words over some music, and blending those same words into the music. There’s not a lot of humor. They use a lot of slang and colloquialisms, and you don’t really see inside the person. Instead, you just get a lot of posturing.”

No I don’t believe rap is the main cause but it contributes to the cause. Parents aren’t parents anymore. They allow their children to listen to and do as they please most of the time. Parents these days don’t seem to care what their kids are doing as long as they aren’t under their feet. They are not there when they get home from school so who is raising the children? TV and music, video games. How many kids are told they are loved? How many kids are told I care? How many kids are told they are a blessing to the family. How many kids are ask,How did your day go? How many kids gets a hug? This is an angry generation and what they listen to and view doesn’t help and having a president that many black children look up to doesn’t help with the kind of people he hangs with and evidently looks up to himself.

That doesn’t make rap a cause or a contribution. That’s a stretch. Eminem saying something isn’t going to make somebody go to a school with a gun no matter how much you say it will. You even say it in your post; they go to rap because of their situation. So rap is not the problem, it’s the parents fault for not contributing. Your argument is a big stretch. I’m frequently told I’m loved and how much of a blessing I am by my family. I still listen to Eminem and some other fairly violent lyrics. It doesn’t make me want to go out and degrade authority or anything of the sort. Stop trying to foist the blame on others for the fact that parents all over the world are f*cking up. Another reason that children may not respect authority is the fact that parents nowadays want to be friends with their children and let them call them by their first name as well as teachers. But I wouldn’t say even that is as much a cause as you want it to be. My younger brother is autistic. He doesn’t kno about Eminem and other such bullshit and my parents make it apparent everyday that they love him. Nevertheless he still has problems with authority. Why is that? Because it is simply in our nature.

Did you actually read the lyrics or did you just find a song called “The B*tch in Yoo” and automatically assume it was referring to a woman and not the fact that he was calling out another rapper for the contradictions in his persona and his attempts to start a feud with him? I guess not.

No I read the lyrics, nice try.

So it’s okay to call another rapper a bi**h as long as it’s not a woman.

A bi**h ni**a wit an attitude named Cube

Hyprocrite, I’m filling out your Death Certificate

I break in and smack ni**az that’s in the Slaughterhouse

    Grafted ass ni**a

And violate you, a Muslim drinking brew
    Your ni**a ain’t no Mack 10, he’s a 22

but since it ain’t a woman it’s okay. We’ve got this guy all wrong.

So tell us, all those times Comon was calling Cube a bi**h n**ga. What did he mean there? And Comon was going to ‘violate’ a Muslim? That’s in the lyrics.

So I guess as long as it’s not a woman it’s okay to violate Muslims? Must have missed that memo.

And we really have the wrong rapper on those counts?? Do tell!

There is a child in our family who is autistic so I know how that is so don’t try to put words in my mouth about every child that listens to rap. You make a good point that parents want their children to be their best friend and that doesn’t work but a lot of parents are to busy to care what is going on in with their children. They want and need to look up to someone or something and TV,Music, video games are doing the baby sitting. We all have the choice to be good or not , in our nature as you say, but we need good healthy influences in our lives to make those choices.
Autistic children have many problems and authority is one of them. Their mind just doesn’t work in the same manner as normal and it is so hard on families. I hope your brother does well and with parents who love him I’m sure he will.

I was blown away when that dumb broad piped up with, well “Eric Clapner did a song about killing cops”, referring to “I Shot the Sheriff”, what a moron! Damn, for always running their taco holes about how smart they are, the libs / progs are sure f***ing stupid!

Ok winning I know it seem ridiculous but if you listen to the lyrics of I SHOT THE SHERIFF, written by Bob Marley(another hero of the right) they aren’t much different than a lot of these rappers songs. Just no swear words. Its talking about how he killed a cop cause the cop did him wrong. Kinda basic rap stuff. Granted some rap can try and get these points across in a more aggressive manner but still.

Actually it’s a Bob Marley song, Clapton just did it and got a hit out of it. We’ve had violence in all sorts of genres. I don’t know if Johnny Cash wrote it but he does a song called Cocaine Blues on ‘At Folsom Prison’. Check that one out.

Thing is, music and motion pictures throughout the years have been chock full of violence, much of it against local and federal law enforcement. The big difference is that those are fictional stories, where the cops are written as bad cops. In the case of the douchebag invited to The White House by another douchebag and his un-American skeezer old lady, the guy was referencing an actual event in which an innocent cop was murdered. I’ve never heard the song until this event, but it’s shameful, and it’s consistent with this charlatan asshole flipping off normal America.

  • Just4thekoolaid

what’s funny is that george h.w. bush invited Eric Wright (aka Eazy-E) to the white house. Eazy started out in the group N.W.A. Sound familiar? That’s because N.W.A. wrote the song “F_ck tha Police”. Buy the album “resurrection” buy common. It might change the mind of some of you people that don’t understand musical art. Politicians trying to interpret art is beyond ridiculous.

Funny I don’t think of David by Michelangelo pornography, didn’t it symbolise civil liberties in the Florentine Republic? Which ran for about 100 years in one sort or another with a lot of problems.

You know im a cop and im offended by you guys who think cops are against rappers like this. I swore to uphold the constitution, one amendment which gives the right of free speech and assembly. They idea that lyrics cause this violence towards us is bullcrap. Do some research and find out when the highest murder rate for cops was. Ill give ya a hint it hasn’t been any of the years since rap was invented.

Yeah, that’s right, I’m a former cop and was in the academy probably about the time your twin brother was being spit out the passenger window. What a dumb ass. And an embarrassment to a decent profession.
