Chris Matthews Not Convinced By Weiner’s Stories, Not Impressed With His ‘Juvenile Behavior’

Video

Chris Matthews continued to not believe Democratic Congressman Anthony Weiner’s “strange” explanations for what really happened with his Twitter account and the now infamous underwear picture. Matthews also wasn’t impressed with Weiner’s many interviews yesterday, suggesting Weiner was merely “appearing to being exhaustive” without really answering anything.

Matthews repeatedly wondered why if Weiner truly had nothing to hide, then why couldn’t he just say “I got nothing to do with it!” Politico’s Ben Smith agreed that Weiner should be completely honest and needs to realize that the media will never get tired of a Congressman’s crotch. Given that there still remains some unanswered questions, Matthews began his own speculation, thinking “I never heard [Weiner] say I never sent [the photo] to anybody.”

Ultimately Matthews thought Weiner’s “juvenile behavior” would be an embarrassment to the Democratic party long after the ordeal is over, as Matthews realized “nobody is coming to this guy’s aid.” Matthews was even annoyed that Weiner used a slang spelling of “howz” in his Twitter feed. In fact, Matthews thinks it’s even possible that Republicans can successfully attack the whole Democratic party over Weiner’s behavior and retain control of the House of Representatives as a result.

Really? I thought the left saw Weiner’s juvenile behavior as his greatest strength.

    Talking Point Memo:

“Leaked Emails Show Tip To Breitbart About Weiner Tweet

The ongoing scandal surrounding a lewd tweet sent from Rep. Anthony Weiner’s (D-NY) Twitter account took yet another turn for the weird Thursday as alleged e-mails between the person who first noticed the photo and conservative media guru Andrew Breitbart were leaked.

Breitbart first reported the Weiner story Saturday on his site Big Government using a screengrab from the person in question, Twitter user “@patriotusa76,” who lists his name on his account as Dan Wolfe and said he captured the image from Weiner’s feed before it was deleted. Weiner has said his account was hacked and a number of liberal blogs have pointed to Wolfe — who had a history of crudely taunting Weiner online — as a person of interest.

In response, Wolfe has tweeted denials that he hacked Weiner’s account or had anything to do with the publication of the photo.

Breitbart began to raise suspicions on his own Twitter feed about Wolfe’s involvement in the incident in recent days, calling on him to come forward about his role, and is currently linking to a post on his Big Government website that questions whether @patriotusa76 did, in fact, hack Weiner’s account.

With that as background, The Smoking Gun published emails today from Dan Wolfe, AKA “patriotusa76,” at least one of which listed Breitbart as a recipient. In the first email, Wolfe tips off Breitbart to the screengrab as well as key details of the story and promises at the end that “we have more.”

In the second email, Wolfe appears agitated and warns that he will be in big trouble if unspecified details about his role in the incident leak:

I have ALOT of personal problems I didn’t want to go into–but as I become the focus of this I am more and more afraid this will all come out. I want to tell you why I haven’t talked on the phone yet.

I have an en exwife suing me for custody of our 2 kids and for lots of other stuff right now. Her attorneys are after everything I own.

I have an ex girlfriend who has mental problems causing issues for me at work .

My business is suffering as a result.

If my exwife’s attorney’s got a hold of a call recorded with me on it they’d have a field day with that. I want to try to avoid.

She had recorded me twice before. She worked with my exgirlfriend and had two calls recorded.

It has gotten me in a lot of legal trouble.

I am screwed. If this comes out along with everything I’m dealing with here — I don’t know what to do.

In addition to the two published e-mails, TSG described additional correspondences, including one email on May 25, several days before the Twitter incident with Weiner, in which he said he was afraid of Weiner’s connections to the Clinton administration. Weiner is married to Huma Abedin, a close aide to Hillary Clinton.

“Clinton connections–they have people everywhere,” he allegedly wrote. He brought them up again in a later email to Breitbart after the Twitter photo went online.

“I personally don’t fell [sic] comfortable giving him my phone number because of the Clinton ties to this,” Wolfe wrote. “Weiner is sneaky and I don’t need Clinton problems.”

Weiner has claimed that he was hacked, but has said that he is not sure whether or not the photo in question depicts his own body. TPM asked Weiner yesterday whether he was suggesting that someone broke into his account, obtained actual photos, and then Tweeted them in order to embarrass him. He did not dismiss the notion.

Here’s the deal as I see it:

Chris is accurate in his assessment of Weiner. I use the word “accurate” instead of “right” because I’ve seen many comments which were accurate, but misleading & definitely not right.

The problem is Chris’ MOTIVE. Every time he says something worthy of the attention of a Mediaite writer, he appears to have an ulterior, self-serving motive. (Note: it is sad that no Mediaite writers who give a whit about Chris are able to detect his ulterior motives.)

Have you noticed that all of Chris’s outrageous comments are made to glorify HIM. Time after time, he says outrageous things so people will talk about HIM. Chris doesn’t mind being less than 100% right, as long as we’re talking about HIM.

With Chris, it is and always will be about HIM. He will do or say anything to keep his fat ass in front of a television camera. Fortunately, he has enough liberal friends to aid him in his “look at me” comments.
And that includes several (not all) right here at Mediaite City.

Possibly, The FBI could put this mystery to rest. Why is Little DIckie opposed to an investigation?

  • SuburbanPatriot

This guy just wouldn’t shut up about stuff like Obamacare and the outright lie that Clarence Thomas’ was covering up that his wife was a lobbyist which she isn’t even really. Well look what happened, Weiner man. Next time I guess you will keep your mouth shut and let the real americans do their business!

Right on AK Steve. In this case he flat out says his concern is that it will hurt the Dems, HIS party.

One more . Speaking of juvenile .

Was Fox News’ legal analyst Peter Johnson brought in to discuss this ?

I agree with you on Matthews being a dem cheerleader, but he has been pretty harsh on Weiner. I don’t see how anyone could vote for him. He is an evasive and self-absorbed.

  • Liberal Tormentor

I agree David, but it’s WHY he’s being hard on him. Because he’s hurting the Dem’s. Steve is right, he always has an agenda and it’s not to get to the truth.

I am not impressed with Chris Matthews and these old media guys who obviously are not up on all the advances in Social Media. Leave it to Rachel Maddow show producers to prove that in less 20 min any savvoy comptuer tech can doctor and change pics from twitter.Yfrog has since changed some security things on their site so obviously they know they had securtiy issues. Plus the fact Andrew Breibart is involved in this story should be a warning to all media especially Chris Matthews that their is more to this story and their is shady republican buisness behind this.

The only mystery left now is why no one of these people won’t do a Trump and say “OF COURSE HE DID IT!”

Actually Bill Whittle on PJTV has, and every one else is only inching toward it.

If this keeps Weiner from becoming mayor here in NYC, I’ll be ecstatic. That’s the last thing this city needs. I’d take a Democrat like Andrew Cuomo (who is suprising me with what he’s done so far as Governor), but not Anthony Weiner. That would take us right back to squeegee men, street crime run amok, etc.

  • Liberal Tormentor

Actually Sam, he seems more your type than mine.

Oh Oh, the excuses are coming. Sorry Chris, the dems don’t have a chance to take back the House even if Weiner was a decent human being and not a phony lying lib.

Pelosi needs the Weiner to feel good about herself.

Breibart is like a hunter that goes out in the woods blindfolded and indiscriminately shoots in every direction with their hunting rifle. If you do that once in awhile your going to hit something out of pure luck. Breibart may have hit something, as Ii believe this story has legs> Don’t get too exited conservatives, as the seat in NYC will just revert to another progressive democrat.

If Weiner can’t get the unflinching support of MSNBC hosts, he is in deep trouble.

Of course, Rachel Maddow is still in lockstep, and conducted the most softball interview imaginable when she talked to Weiner. Matthews, however, shows some signs of independent thinking. You don’t see much of that on MSNBC — a network where virtually everyone, hosts and guests, seem to have identical opinions on every subject that comes up.

  • Nature Freak

In reality, sex scandals transcend political boundaries. Anyone politician with a Weiner can get in one. I suspect in the future we will see more women getting in trouble too.

And I admit, some of these sex scandals are entertaining, even if it happens to my team.

Got to say your right on that one, the only way Weiner gets tossed is in the primaries. That’s a Democrat seat.

I do not care about Weiner, but I am surprised that Mediaite missed Chris Matthews’ real faux pas on June 2nd.

He started off his show with this:
Good evening, I’m Chris Matthews down in Washington. Leading off tonight, civil war on the right. Not since the election of Abraham Lincoln has a Republican caused such a war.

I have heard many explanations for the Civil War, but I’ve never read or heard from any reputable source that Abraham Lincoln was the cause. Maybe from some disreputable sources, though, and Chris Matthews is as disreputable as you can get.
