CNN’s Anderson Cooper Returns To Haiti With Struggling Ratings

Cable news ratings, July 12, 2010: Check out the highlights, and see the full ratings below:

• We know, we know, it’s not about the ratings. But Anderson Cooper returned to Haiti for the six month anniversary since the deadly earthquake, and the Monday night broadcast saw low ratings. The 10pmET show finished 4th in the A25-54 demographic and 3rd in total viewers. When Cooper spent significant amount of time covering the story in January, his show saw a ratings bump.

Glenn Beck was bounced out of the #2 spot on cable news Monday, finishing behind five other FNC programs in the demo.

CNN got a brief — and modest — boost in ratings after the Haitian earthquake. And they certainly did a first class job of covering it (in sharp contrast to their biased and slavishly doctrinaire approach to covering major stories in the US). But for them to send Anderson Cooper back to Haiti for “six month anniversary coverage” does look a bit forced, does it not?

If CNN wants betters ratings, maybe the “journalists” there should start covering all those stories they are working so hard to hide back home — for a start, Eric Holder’s decision that only white criminals need be prosecuted by the Obama administration.

Buh byee, Andy boy. Take the same exit as John King and watch that swinging door. Robin Meade is the only reason to watch CNN.

I admire AC and Dr Sanja’s coverage in Haiti.

I turned the channel however when Sean Penn appeared on last night.

Oh, God- you have to be kidding.

And look what has happened in 6 months. Very little. People are still living in tents, there is a lack of water, etc.

It is amazing that Beck at 5PM (!), beats all the CNN, MSNBC, and HLN shows. No one even comes close to him.
Boy must be doing something right!

  • murf

Notsofast – I agree not much has changed , but I think you got to give props to AC for covering it , when most other news outlets haven’t done any follow-ups done there.

I do give Anderson credit for covering Haiti extensively, but, in my opinion, he has lost too much credibility and respect to ever fully recover from his other unprofessional antics.

Also, as usual, the live blog keeps blocking any negative criticism of BO. Last night I tried 5 times to send in a comment saying that the corrupt Haitian government had no plan and no organization to handle the earthquake and its aftermath just like the Obama administration’s mishandling of the BP leak.

I agree. I have sent in that very same comment numerous times to the AC360 feedback and to his Twitter account which he never bothers to read because he has no respect for what his viewers have to say.
