CNN’s Dana Bash: Some in White House Didn’t Think Comey Firing Would Be ‘Political Explosion’

CNN’s Dana Bash is reporting tonight that there are senior people in the White House who did not think the firing of James Comey would result in this kind of “political explosion.”

“My understanding, according to a source familiar with White House discussions, is that when this was initially going down and made public, that some senior people in the White House did not think this was going to be the political explosion that it obviously is. It’s sort of hard for us to believe that this is true, but this is what I am told.”

The reason, she explained, is that it was Democrats who wanted to see Comey fired in the first place.

But as Bash added, it does not answer the question of “Why now?”
