Cornell Belcher Calls Out Media ‘Double-Standard’ Over Herman Cain’s ‘Blacks Are Brainwashed’ Comment

video

Godfather’s Pizza magnate Herman Cain is having a moment, albeit a weird one, in which he has leapt into a statistical tie for 2nd place in the GOP primary race following a crushing victory in the Florida straw poll, but is also drawing fire for a perfectly-timed media byte in which he says African Americans have been “brainwashed” into voting for Democrats. On Thursday night’s AC360, former Bush spokesman Ari Fleischer and Democratic pollster Cornell Belcher debated Cain’s ascent, and that inflammatory remark.

Anderson Cooper begins by asking if Cain’s current afterburn is sustainable. Fleischer pointed out that running a close third at this point is a good position to be in, in case either frontrunner stumbles. That has already happened, arguably, as Rick Perry has fallen from a double-digit lead over Mitt Romney, into a virtual dead heat with Cain for second place, all in the space of a week. Their respective momenta might carry each candidate further along these trajectories, as things haven’t gotten any better for Perry.

But will Cain’s remarks kill his rapid ascent? Cooper asked Belcher if there was anything to Cain’s claim that he could pull about a third of the black vote. “A great way to sort of get people on your side and win voters is to attack their intelligence.,” Belcher said, “So great job there. Really sensible, Herman Cain.”

He then issued a rather scorching media critique, challenging CNN (where Cain made his statement) and other media outlets to stop having Cain on. “If I came on your show, Anderson, and I said, all Jewish people are brainwashed, I probably wouldn’t be invited back to CNN, and I assure you the condemnation would be swift, and it’d be powerful and be strong.”

He went on to call Cain’s comment a “racist, bigoted statement,” and said Cain “should treated like a racist and bigoted person who makes those racist and bigoted statements.”

Cooper tossed the question to Fleischer, who channeled his inner 90s Jerry Springer guest, saying, “Anderson, I’m not, I’m not even going there.”

He tried to focus on Cain’s electoral prospects, hindered by a perceived lack of credibility, and a lack of political experience that appeals to voters on one hand, but disqualifies him, to some degree, on the other.

Belcher continued to press Fleischer on whether he would condemn Cain if he had said the same thing about Jews.

Cooper, playing devil’s advocate, asked if Cain’s remarks could be cast as a comment on a voting bloc, rather than a racial commentary. “Don’t people often say, though, well, liberals think this, or… I mean people make vast statements about groups all the time…  independent voters think this.”

Cooper’s premise misses the point, though, that Cain’s statement wasn’t an observation of trend data among a voting bloc, but rather, a blanket theory as to why that racially defined bloc votes the way it does. Such a postulate about “independent voters,” or “liberals,” for example, wouldn’t carry the same level of offense because, as Belcher points out, those groups haven’t been historically marginalized because of those identities.

Fleischer tried to justify Cain’s comment because it was based on the accepted premise that 90-95% of black people vote the same way, then added, “when people start throwing the word ‘racism’ around that’s when I end the conversation because you cannot have an intelligent conversation when people are accusing people in the public square of that.”

The heated conversation continued along those same lines, with Fleischer toeing the conservative line that discussions about racism are the real problem, not the racism itself, and Belcher pressing the “double-standard” he described earlier. Cooper finished by noting that Cain would be participating in a CNN debate in a few weeks. “Let’s see if Herman Cain gets some questions on that,” he said.

On the nature of Cain’s comments, I think Belcher is essentially correct, that the “brainwashing” charge is degrading, and its application to black people is legitimately offensive. The charge of “racism,” though, is complicated by some context that I haven’t heard anyone discussing.

Black conservatives like Herman Cain and Rep. Allen West, who has also made racially offensive statements about the “Democrat plantation” and his role as a modern Harriet Tubman, aren’t making these comments in a vacuum. They are routinely attacked along racial lines, as “sell-outs,” or as far less polite variations on that theme. That doesn’t make Cain’s, or West’s, statements less offensive, but their position on the racial playing field makes them something other than “racists.”

Belcher hits on something important that people ought to keep in mind when they attack Cain, or other black conservatives, as “tokens” or “Uncle Toms.” He told Cooper and Fleischer, “Well, historically, you know, once upon a time African- Americans overwhelmingly voted Republican when they in fact could vote. So you’ve got to understand that African-Americans make policy decisions and they change — using reason, it’s not — it’s not about brainwashing.”

Perhaps black conservatives use similar faculties – right or wrong – to shape their own beliefs, and not the promise of advancement through tokenism. If Cain’s attack on black voters is illegitimate, then mustn’t the “Uncle Tom” construct advanced by the likes of Janeane Garofalo also be illegitimate? Whether or not some sort of racial vindication plays a part in their appeal to conservatives, they are owed the respect that their beliefs are sincere, just as those 95% of black voters are owed the presumption that they can think independently.

Here’s the clip, from Anderson Cooper 360:

Liberals are scared to death that minorities will realize they don’t need Gov’t to take care of them.  That they aren’t as stupid and useless as the Dem’s have led them to believe.  That they can succeed on their own.  If they happens, the Dems are toast and they know it.

  • Anonymous

I missed it when Jeanine Garofalo announced she was running for president.  Do you have a clip of that?

Or is this just another false equivalency you are throwing out there to protect yourself from the mouth-breathers on this site?

there are more white people on welfare than black people michelle…

  • Has to be …Right ?

Let me be the first to say ….Someone in this story is a Racist .

  • Anonymous

,Yeah, the Dems have done so much for blacks haven’t they. They voted against every CRA or amendment addressing civil rights except the 1964 CRA which Repubs supported more than did the Dems, and they were in charge of both houses of Congress from 1997 until 12/31/2010 and what did blacks get from them?

17% unemployment, record housing foreclosures, record # on food stamps, record# in poverty and record # on welfare!

    Thank you Dems!

  • Lilmike95

I think Herman Cain has a point. For years we have voted simply because it was a democratic candidate on the ballot. No true fact checking of said candidate(s) as long as the word democrat was attached to their name and or candidacy. So there is some truth to Mr. Cains’ statement whether it makes us angry or offended or not.

  • Michelle

My comment can apply to them too.

  • Michelle

I expect you libs to nominate her any day now.

Tommy, Tommy, Tommy, Cain is only telling the truth. And look at the Democrat, trying to convince the mainstreet media ignore Cain.  Cain blew the competition out of the water in the first debate, so what happened? No major media coverage, next to no questions during any of the debates until Florida so his exposure was almost non existent. Then they made the mistake of asking Herm a couple of questions and he creamed the “leading” candidates and now Cain is getting attention.  He will be on the Tonight Show tonight.
Herman Cain, former Chairman of the Kansas City Fed!!! Cain/Rubio will allow the US to get back on track…
    YES WE CAIN!!

  • Concerned Citizen

Cain is black!! How can he be racist and bigoted against his own race? How can none of these commentators say that Cain is black.

Not by percent! And who set an all time record of putting  more there? Obama!

And did you see, Obama gave Oregon a huge bonus for getting more people on food stamps?  He truly is the food stamp President.

hey libs/dems instead of using these black people as a constant weight on us, how about giving us a figure we can pay one time and cut them loose. oh you wouldn’t want that would you?

Yes but whites have choices and spread out among parties. American Blacks are like sheep and lead in only one direction otherwise if they think different other blacks will call them “uncle toms” or “Orero’s.”  Same thing in Black schools around this country… if a student does well with grades and does not want to be a rap star they are called “whitey”.

The best aspect of Cain’s campaign is that it will drive the lunatic-left d-cRAT socialists even more insane (if that is even possible) because the d-cRAT socialists believe that blacks are 100% owned as their property. So, when one of them strays from the lunatic-left plantation and speaks out of turn – or otherwise disobeys their d-cRAT MASTERS – the lunatic-left and their stooges in the lamestream socialist media go into hyper-hate mode and throw everything they can at the offender. Already, race-baiter “lynch the INNOCENT Duke lacrosse team” sharpton and sewer-rat maher have called Cain a “racist”, a “bigot” and an “uncle tom” (the lunatic-left ALWAYS throws out such epithets because they are simply mentally incapable of rationally discussing any matter.)  There will be more – much more – vile hatred from the d-cRAT socialists directed at Cain as he campaigns and shows many that there is a BETTER alternative to the despicable d-cRAT socialist OWNERS and RULERS of blacks.

  • john.kliber

If Jewish people or any other group voted either Rep or Dem to the tune of 95% that WOULD be an excellent argument that they’re brainwashed. How is it possible for the rest of the country, that part that is not black, to be more or less evenly divided but black folks run like lemmings to the Dems?

Any one that really believes the Reps are all racists just because blacks folks say so should start buying cars and microwaves only made by black folks so you feel your getting your money’s worth.

  • john.kliber

Go by percentages and see how it works out ya moron. There’s more white folks, a lot more, than blacks in the U.S. or hadn’t you figured that out? On the other hand, there’s as many black folks in prison as there are whites. How does that set of statistics work out in George Orwell’s world of idiocy convention?

Here is what Obama has accomplished since January 2009:

    9.1% unemployment
    Record # on welfare
Record # of people in foreclosure
    Record # living in poverty
    Record deficits

That happened AFTER Obama came into office.

    Bush unemployment?

    Dec 2001: 3.7%
    Dec 2002: 5.4%
    Dec 2003: 5.7%
    Dec 2004: 5.1%
    Dec 2005: 5.1%
    Dec 2006: 4.6%
    Dec 2007: 4.8%

Belcher says Mr.Cain is making racist, and bigoted statements? So, if you disagree with the Democratic agenda, and you tell people of your race they are being duped, your a racist? Belcher says that, knowing that Black unemployment is nearly double the National average. And, he says that knowing Obimbo is pandering to the Latinos, promising amnesty to the very people who are hurting Blacks the most?!! Mr.Belcher is so blinded by his own racism, he can’t see anything passed that! It’s very sad to see a Black man with a mind so-closed, he is unwilling to see the facts before him.

I wonder why Belcher feels the need to lie in order to attack Cain. How many times does he talk about calling ALL of one group of people or another whatever. Cain did no such thing, and in fact explicitly stated that not all Blacks are of this mindset and spoke of meeting those blacks all the time.

I also wonder why Cooper didn’t point that out.

  • OSux

Once they are hired you can’t fire them.  People know that a descrimination lawsuit will come shortly after that.  That is one reason why people are reluctant to hire them.

  • Cecelia

Well, actually, I think you probably could say that Jews are brainwashed into voting for Democrats, without a lot of drama.

That’s quite an argument Belcher has considering that this same statement has been made about poor whites and white males in general for forever and day.

How many times have we heard that poor whites vote “against their own interests” because they are manipulated by crypto-religious race baiting extremists and wealthy establishment types?

White males aren’t just brainwashed into largely voting Republican, but do so out of a desire for dominance and exclusion of others in the cultural power structure.

Maybe Cain should have confined his remarks to one gender or another within the black community.

If it’s not “bedroom slippers” that’s racist, it’s garden-variety allusions of manipulation and quid pro pacts against opposition voting blocs.

This election promises to be a virtual TBN mud wrestling match of ginned up controversy of the most cynical and absurd sort.  Oh, how we love the muck and the mire!

  • ceeza

“Not by percent”  …What a bitch you are… My simple point is it’s inauthentic to say “liberal minorities” need the government to take care of themselves and not discuss whites as well.. Government assistance crosses all racial and party lines…. The fact is out of all the people on welfare in America, there are a greater number of whites receiving it… That’s a percentage too dick head…

  • Bob Uda

On his trip to Vietnam, leading presidential contender George Romney (Mitt Romney’s dad) got kicked out of the lead and eventually out of the presidential race entirely because he said that the American people were “brainwashed” about what was happening in Vietnam.  He was right, but the liberals got rid of him by their great avalanche of opposition to what he had said.  I hope Herman Cain do not face the same consequences.

AsI believe we were brainwashed about what was going on in Vietnam, I believe the Blacks are brainwashed about wanting entitlements, which keeps them on the Liberal virtual plantation.  The Blacks, like Herman Cain and many others, that do get off that subservient plantation and become true conservatives are blasted as Uncle Toms, racists, and tools of the conservatives.  That couldn’t be farther from the truth.  The Blacks should wise up and realize that the Congressional Black Caucus is just the tool of the Liberal massas in Congress.  Wise up folks and realize that the Liberal massas want your vote and devotion for the free stuff you receive from them.  Stand on your own two feet.  Stop being a slave of the Progressives in Congress.

This is from a yellow man–Asian in your twisted politically correct terminology.

The labor unions and LBJ took a decent hardworking family oriented people, who were once slaves. and turned them back into slaves.  Labor unions, the real racists, didn’t want blacks in their ranks so they made a deal with LBJ to offer blacks free money to stay at home.  Labor leaders said, “Hey, they’re lazy anyway, they’ll take that deal. ”

Now, after almost 50 years, large portions of the black community haven’t worked in generations. They think that because their ancestors were once slaves they are entitled to free money.  That free money comes from Democrats.  Evil Republicans might make them work.  These evil deeds by Democrats border on genocide.

  • Cecelia

“Such a postulate about “independent voters,” or “liberals,” for example,
wouldn’t carry the same level of offense because, as Belcher points
out, those groups haven’t been historically marginalized because of
    those identities.”

Well, blacks aren’t marginalized now.  They can vote and vote they do.  I think Cain alluded to the reasons they largely vote Democratic.  That because govt was originally the source of their freedom, that America offers no other avenue for them.  Govt is their protector and the sole possibility for their advancement.

Cain would argue that the Democratic Party has fostered this belief in the black community, and that it’s a belief that erodes confidence in our culture and in ordinary Americans.

Far from being racist and bigoted, Cain is uniquely qualified to make such an argument.

It’s not one that is utterly indisputable or that should not be mediated. It is one that is entirely appropriate in any national discourse on race.

Welcome, to the discussion , Mr. Cain.  Here’s hoping you won’t be morphed into a pariah too quickly.

I know someone who always votes democrat, no matter who it is, because “republican are for rich white people, and democrats are for everyone else” and that he will be voting for Obama again because “Obama is one of us”. He told me this after a conversation when I said I was an independent and I didn’t know yet who I would vote for in 2012. I fail to see his logic because there plenty of the democrats in Washington are rich white people, and Obama is a politician just like the rest of them, which I am not, so he’s nothing like me.

Whether or not some sort of racial vindication plays a part in their
appeal to conservatives, they are owed the respect that their beliefs
are sincere, just as those 95% of black voters are owed the presumption
    that they can think independently.

Well apparently they cannot get ID to vote if it becomes law, they cannot get their smartest among them into college without affirmative action, they cannot buy a house, get a loan, start a business or have a voice in congress without the CBC, or community organizers for that matter, so why does anyone think that they can think independently, Tommy???

Exit question: If America is racist, why is it we need all this help for black citizens but not Hispanic, Asians and all other foreigners who have to work just to become Americans? Do we discriminate in our racism, or something? How is it that illegal aliens from Mexico can come to America, start business, buy homes and succeed so well without a Congressional Hispanic Caucus?

Belcher is doing what typically happens to prominent blacks that DARE to address the premise whether Democrats have their best interests at heart.
Belcher then issued a rather scorching media critique, challenging CNN (where Cain made his statement) and other media outlets to stop having Cain on.
That’s right, cut his balls off, ostracise him, take away his 1st amendment rights, all because he threatens what a lot of us already know. At least he didn’t call him an “Uncle Tom”

No we are just intelligent to know to vote for the most experienced candidate.  We don’t vote for someone just because of their race…like the Democrats did with Obama.

Hillary Clinton was the far more experienced and capable candidate between her and Obama.  McCain was far more experienced than Obama.  But 98% of the blacks voted for Obama.  Why?  Was it is his experience, of which he had none, or the color of his skin.

What scares black Democrats is an American like  Herman Cain, who is educated, intelligent, self-made, and well spoken and does not subscribe to Liberal programs, talking points or handouts.  Herman Cain is a Conservative in every sense of the word.  He believes, as do all other Conservatives, that Americans can be whatever they want to be regardless of race, color or creed.  He believes that there is no place for inequality and that minorities who latch onto the Democrat mindset mire themselves in reliance upon social programs and government hand outs.

Welfare, Food Stamps, and social program after social program while helpful in the short term, do not motivate people from getting off such programs.  I know people on welfare and food stamps who do not want to get a job because when they do they lose their food stamp money or welfare money.  These  Democrat programs have those people brainwashed into thinking this is the only way out.  These programs are a form of servitude.  The government offers you a freebie and the minute you show any effort to improve yourself….they take it away.

Democrats want people reliant upon the government programs.  And the more reliant they are the more they will continue to vote for Democrats because they know that Democrats will keep trying to pass more entitlement programs.  The only reason Dems pass those programs is to keep addicted to them.  They give you a taste and keep you coming back….very much like a drug dealer.  You need the fix and they will never help you get off of the addiction.

Conservatism is the belief they anyone can do what they want if they work hard enough, and that is the truth…the American way.

So forget all of the hateful “Tea Bagger” language and think about the actual message of Conservativism.  It is about empowerment, drive and success.

And those who want to stay reliant upon the government and keep voting for Democrats….are exactly what Herman Cain said….brainwashed.

How is Herman Cain wrong? Blacks vote 90-95% for Democrats in Presidential elections. They keep voting in the likes of Maxine Waters, Charlie Rangel, Sheila Jackson Lee, and Andre Carson, despite numerous House Ethics Committee investigations and racially charged remarks emanating from members of the Congressional Black Caucus. They support Democrats who advocate policies that have caused immense harm to the black community, namely the Great Society programs, opposition to school vouchers, and amnesty for illegals. And the economic conditions for blacks are an absolute disaster under the Obama Administration with 17% unemployment and record numbers on food stamps and unemployment.

Yet despite all this, it’s accepted by every pundit and politician in the land that Obama will get 90+% of the black vote in 2012. Why is that? It can’t be that they’re happy with his performance. I doubt it’s because his rant at the CBC event the other night inspired them. No, it’s because they’ve been conditioned for generations now to support Democrats. No matter how bad they perform in office. No matter what laws they break. No matter how many offensive or downright stupid remarks they make. If they’re a Democrat(and especially if they’re a black Democrat), all is forgiven at the ballot box. Sorry, but that portion of the electorate is effectively brainwashed when they’re completely incapable of contemplating their vote before casting it.

Belcher is not totally wrong.Blacks are NOT brainwashes to vote for Democrats. They are just stupid.Like Jews. Only Jews are REALLY stupid.Blacks at least, up until now, voted for Democrats because Democrats give them lots of free goodies: welfare, food stamps, and the like. Black are too stupid to realize that the Democrats and their free goodies keep their race in a permanent state of poverty. But Jews are REALLY stupid – because they don’t need the free goodies Democrats promise them. Jews are smart and rich, and the Democrats cater to the poor and stupid. Democrats tax the hell out of success, and Jews get hit by this. So, Jews vote against their own interests.I am a Jew, and I have seen this firsthand from members of my own family. They vote Democrat “because my Dad and my grandpa voted Democrat.” Who cares if Democrats want Jews to be poor like the blacks and Hispanics they cater to? Who cares if Democrats hate Jews, or hate Israel? Who cares if Obama palled around with Jew-haters like Jeremiah Wright and Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson?

  • http://twitter.com/BarneyFranken Barney Franken

There are also huge problems in Belcher’s parallel.

Most importantly: Belcher isn’t Jewish, but Cain IS Black.

If Belcher were to come on CNN and criticize Jews, He would be criticizing outside his race. That obviously is not what Cain is doing.

Also, unlike Cain, Belcher wouldn’t be going against the grain- there is a well established history of Blacks criticizing Jews:

    Al Sharpton- Comments on Jews
During the Crown Heights Riot, Sharpton (who arranged a rally in Crown Heights after Cato’s death[29]) has been seen by some commentators as inflaming tensions by making remarks that included “If the Jews want to get it on, tell them to pin their yarmulkes back and come over to my house”[54] and referring to Jews as “diamond merchants.”[55]

    Jesse Jackson- Remarks about Jews

While talking with the Washington Post reporter Milton Coleman in January 1984, Jackson referred to New York City as “Hymietown”.[30] Hymie is a pejorative term for Jews.

Among Jackson’s other remarks were that Richard Nixon was less attentive to poverty in the U.S. because “four out of five [of Nixon's top advisors] are German Jews and their priorities are on Europe and Asia”; that he was “sick and tired of hearing about the Holocaust”; and that there are “very few Jewish reporters that have the capacity to be objective about Arab affairs”. In 1979, Jackson said on a trip to the Middle East that Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin was a “terrorist,” and Israel was a “theocracy.”

Last I checked there is no CNN ban on Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton.

    Welfare recipients based on race:

    White 38.8%
    Black 37.2
    Hispanic 17.8
    Asian 2.8
    Other 3.4

It doesn’t initially look good for either whites or blacks until you compare these figures with US Census population figures. Blacks = 12.9% of the population, Whites = 77.1%. This means that proportionally, a MUCH bigger percentage of blacks are on welfare than whites.

As usual when Tommy Christopher writes about racial issues he betrays his ignorance, disingenuousness – or both. When Cain talks about black voters being “brainwashed” he means that after decades of progressive propaganda, they have forgotten that Republicans freed the slaves and that Democrats are the party of Jim Crow. And when West talks about the “Democrat plantation” he means the culture of dependence created by various means-tested entitlement programs that Dems have instituted over the past 40+ years that guarantee recipients won’t starve to death but won’t have a successful life, either.

Even Eric Holder knows that blacks have been brainwashed into only voting for Democrats.

“Justice Dept Says Without Party Labels on Ballots, Blacks Won’t Know Who to Vote For”

Specifically, the DOJ’s Aug. 17 letter to the city said the results of the city’s proposed measure “will be strictly racial.”

“Removing the partisan cue in municipal elections will, in all likelihood, eliminate the single factor that allows black candidates to be elected to office,” wrote Loretta King, acting head of the Justice Department’s civil rights division. That single factor of a black candidate’s success, according to Ms. King, is the label “Democrat.”

I will admit that I have a problem with a majority of black conservatives. I have a problem with anybody who thinks they’re better than me because they believe differently. Bravo for Mr. Cain, he’s accomplished a lot in his life, but that doesn’t elevate him to some type of enlightened class and give him the right to denigrate me or those like me. I vote for candidates who are consistent with my beliefs which is usually democrats. I don’t see why black conservatives have to act like they’re better than other blacks and condemn us then they say that they don’t want to be called uncle toms. If the shoe fits:

Do you actually think that anyone with half a brain will buy your numbers as being soley the fault of Obama. Bush inherited a surplus and turned it into a $1 trillion deficit. Then for the 1st time in the history of this country Bush passed tax cuts while being engaged in 2 wars. He inherited a $5.5 trillion debt and left office with an $11.6 trillion debt. Forclosures started in 2007 because Bush had pushed home ownership and people who couldn’t afford homes bought into the premise that everyone should own a home and big banks had no business giving out mortgage loans to people who couldn’t afford to repay.  Remember the House of Cards. Poverty actually started to rise substantially back in the 80s, which started more and more people to rely on welfare. When Obama was inaugurated, the country was still losing over 750,000 jobs a month and continued until it stabalized in June of 2009. I’m not a liberal and have been an indepedent since 1968. But, hate when both you guys on the right and left can’t seem to get your facts straight and go with what will get people to hit the like button instead of dealing with the real truth.

It’s not so much that Blacks in America have been brainwashed. It’s more like they have been bought and paid for by the Democratic party. Does the term “bought a paid for as it is remind you of any institution as it refers to a human being. Yep, Slavery. Blacks made a deal with the Devil and they are still paying for it. BTW many poor whites took the some deal but as a % of population it really hurt the Blacks the most.

After the Great Society passed LBJ said this to two governors on Air Force One
“I’ll have those n*ggers voting Democratic for the next 200 years.”

After he appointed Thurgood Marshall to the Supreme court LBJ said to staffer “Son when I appoint a n**ger to the court , I want everyone to know he’s a n**ger”.

In the last 100 years can anyone tell me if President has ever gotten 95% of the vote in total. African Americans vote as a block pure and simply. Only a brave few choice to buck this trend. It’s not that they are racist for doing it because they vote for white Democrats just as quick as they would vote for a white one.

But I would ask what has the Democratic Party given the Blacks that has improved their lives so much.

You can say the right the vote but many many Republicans were for this as well. Heck, even though LBJ signed the Bill Republicans with Eisenhower tried to passed a few years earlier and LBJ stopped it was head of the Senate.

Who was it in Alabama in 1963 that tried to stop desegregation? Democrat George Wallace.

That are hundreds of examples of racist Democrat like Woodrow Wilson, Margret Sanger, Robert Bryd, George Wallace.

What did the Great Society do for Blacks…It increase their depends on Government.

I think what’s insulting here is the insuination that other black americans aren’t conciously making decisions for themselves, that somehow using orwellian magic black people in this country have been forced to consistently vote a certain way. I wonder when conservatives will stop insulting the intelligence of minorities in this country and realize that they themselves have made their movement far less endearing to them  with race baiters like rush limbaugh who always seem to be able to comment on the situation in minority communities without actually being a part of them.

I always laugh when I hear one black person calling another an Uncle Tom.  I laugh because it is always clear that the person doing the name calling has never read the book.  “Reading a book is such a white thang.”  If he had he would realize that Uncle Tom is one of the greatest heroes in American Literature.  This book written in 1850 did the best job ever of describing the horrors of slavery.  Never shame yourself by denigrating in such a racist way,

When Obama first came on the scene I was excited to see a black man that could inspire black people to put away the yoke of slavery and realize what they can do for this country and themselves.  Are there any of you who don’t know a black person who has taken advantage of their opportunity?  I am honored to know many intelligent black people who are winning the future.

I find it hard to believe, but Obama made things worse than the have been since the 50s.  Obama has limited the success of millions of black people, and deminished the 401Ks of the rest of us.

Obama  has raised the hate factor. Have you been to DC lately?  Everyone is carrying their Metro Passes with Obama’s picture attached. You can cut the black racism with a knife.  But don’t pull out your knife…you’ll get cut.

When Obama looses in 2012 there is going to be big trouble in DC.  If you’re white or educated black, increase your fire insurance, get your absentee ballot, take your big screen TV and go to Virginia for an extended Fall vacation.

It is not the absolute NUMBERS, but rather the PERCENTAGE who are on welfare, or in prisons, or otherwise occupy some unproductive or counterproductive place in society which is important.  Persons self-identifying as black are 12.6% of the US population.  Persons self-identifying as white are 72.4% of the population,  Blacks are incarcerated at far higher rates than whites.  Blacks are welfare recipients at far higher rates.  Black unemployment is at far higher rates.

He’s continually being called an Oreo…or an Uncle Tom….or worse…by that despicable bunch.  He needs to remain above the fray.  He’s the most articulate member of the Tea Party and would make our founding father’s proud with his limited government message.

So does Belcher really have a problem with true racists using terms like “Stockholm Syndrome”, “Oreo” and “Uncle Tom”, all while attacking an entire race’s intelligence to get them to continue voting for their(his) side? How about the media do something about that huh? Is he seriously advocating that they do not allow a black presidential contender speak because he doesn’t like what he has to say? Even if it is comparatively moderate compared to the disgusting remarks made by his ‘side’?

I am no Democrat, but you sure can tell that the Democratic efforts over the years fighting for civil rights have been a great success, because nowadays Republicans are bending over backwards to try to steal all of the credit and rewrite history while they’re at it.

Notice on that timeline Pablo provided in his link just how much of it happened more than 100 years ago and how little happened since 1965?  That should tell you quite a bit about the GOP.

The Republicans made the conscious decision to split the Southern Democrats by appealing to the racist whites in the South. Notice that little timeline Pablo provided does not show that in 1968 the Republican nominee Goldwater runs on a platform to repeal the 1965 Civil Rights Act.  I wonder why?  How about the fact that two recent RNC chairmen have apologized for what is now called The Southern Strategy.  That didn’t happen a hundred years ago either it has been over the last few decades. That’s why that timeline appears so thin on recent history.

Actually I am a life long Republican, no liberal here at all.  I am white but I thought the comment from McCain was terribly demeaning to blacks.  He talked as if Blacks did not have the RIGHT to chose their party affiliation and just because he assumed it meant they were brain washed, he ended up insulting all Black Democrats,  He is a racist of the first order and obviously has self hatred of his own blackness.  His denigration of fellow black persons is definitely racist!

  • Mari2JJ

Sorry, I just typed a letter to Cain so excuse the McCain reference.  It was definitely Cain!

Republicans to Cain: “Listen besides Colin Powell, Allen West, and C. Rice you are the only other black person that we have supported.  Continue to toe the party line and do as we say, ignore the fact that we have a large number of bigoted members.  Ignore the fact that over 40 percent of MS republicans think that interracial marriage should be illegal.  As long as you obey us and leave our white women alone, we’ll support you…

  • http://twitter.com/BarneyFranken Barney Franken

Of course Al Sharpton & Jesse Jackson are part of a well established history of black Antisemitism.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antisemitism_in_the_United_States

“Confirming the findings of previous surveys, both studies also found that African Americans were significantly more likely than whites to hold anti-Semitic views, with 34 percent of blacks classified as “most anti-Semitic,” compared to 9 percent of whites”

But I’m sorry if I left out many other prominent blacks that have been accused of Antisemitism at one time or another, including but not limited to: Cornel West, Michael Eric Dyson, Tavis Smiley, John Conyers, Van Jones, Cynthia McKinney, and of course no Antisemitic list would be complete without including Louis Farrakhan and Jeremiah Wright… I only left them out of my previous post because was trying to be concise, and plus they were so obvious I didn’t think someone would be stupid enough make me have to bring them up…but I guess I was wrong about that one.

For you to disavow these facts and make some weak claim that there is an equivalent hatred of blacks to the Antisemitism of Jesse Jackson or Louis Farrakhan in the Jewish community is preposterous.

Who exactly in the Jewish community is the equivalent to Louis Farrakhan? You should be embarrassed and ashamed to make that argument.

Seriously pal, do us all a favor and go slither back to the hole you came out of.

Frizzy’s comment shows the true insidiousness of the Democrat party.

This is no disrespect to you sir, and the Korean war was no joke- in many it ways a harder tour of duty than WWII…and we as a country were blessed by your service.

I also have no doubt you truly believe that the Democrats looks out for you and wants to “do good for all people”.

Unfortunately, you have given complete allegiance to a party that has made promises to you and your generation that were unsustainable- but it worked…it got your vote.

I have still a ways to go till I get to retirement, but one thing I know is that I wont be leaving my pension up to social security, because it has very little chance of it still being around when I get of age.

The difference between your generation and mine is that I dont trust politicians or any party to “do good” for anyone but themselves…that’s why when given the choice, I’ll vote for smaller, efficient government over an expensive larger government any day…and that means I don’t vote for Democrats.

trying to divide us on race. So let me make my answer as plain as day,
so that even a congressman can understand it. If by affirmative action
you mean quotas – then no. But if you mean, do I favor giving all people
equal opportunity? You bet. I don’t understand how my opponents could
not agree with the idea of removing all barriers for people to have

I really like the fact that Cain admits that he is still learning.  I’m 64 and I learn every day, mostly about golf, but my 16 year old respects this and is inspired by it.  Politicians try to make us believe that they are still holding the same beliefs that they had 20 years ago.  With a world changing so rapidly how can one not listen and learn?

A leader makes a decision with all the information he has at hand.  Then he adjust his efforts with new information.  The key is to act rather than react.  That’s the problem with Obama.  He’s too weak.  He wants someone else to act for him, so he can comment.  It is clear that Michell wears the pants in that family.  I can’t imagine living with that beast.

‘Liberals are scared to death that minorities will realize they don’t need Gov’t to take care of them.’

    …So much wishful thinking.

There are many African Americans who live their lives with little or no awareness of government.

The vast majority of African Americans have nothing in common with the stalwarts of Conservatism and probably never will. It has nothing to do with their lives. People like Limbaugh, Hannity etc etc will never  appeal, but always repulse.

However much disappointment African American may or may not feel for President Obama it will never compare with the disgust they feel the tactics applied by Tea Party/ Republicans and those people already mentioned.

What your argument  neglects to mention is that ‘some’ of what the President is experiencing is what many have experienced all their lives. Be it by stealth, blatant or very physical abuse.

There is actually a really insightful South Park episode that makes that exact point, called “With Apologies to Jesse Jackson.”

In the episode, Stan’s dad “accidentally” says the N-word on national TV, and Stan spends the rest of the episode trying to apologize to his black friend Token, insisting over and over again that he “understands” how Token feels.  It’s not until Stan realizes that he has *no idea* how Token feels that Token accepts his apology and everything is resolved:

Stan:  Token, I get it now. I don’t get it.  I’ve been trying to say that I understand how you feel, but I’ll never understand.  I’ll never really get how it feels for a black person to have somebody use the N-word.  I don’t get it.

Token:  Now you get it, Stan.

Stan:  Yeah, I totally don’t get it.

    Token:  Thanks, dude.

Ari Fleischer is a “snake-in-the-grass” Jew, who does not care about race or group of people, BUT JEWS, first and foremost, as is the case with all Jews.  However, they have always had their hands and noses over into the black community when it comes to their making money off of blacks. Bloodsucking, they call it. And Cornell Belcher is absolutely correct when he says that if he were to come on CNN and call Jews “brainwashed” he would never be allowed to come back. And would also be banned from other TV channels, as well, since Jews practically dominate the American media.  Which needs to be stopped, or with blacks and others refusing to support any media that Jews are in anyway involved in.  — Rev.
