DNC’s Wasserman Schultz: Republicans Have Been ‘Crossing Their Arms And Hoping For Failure’

On CNN’s State of the Union today, DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz criticized Republicans for voting against the American Jobs Act, and wondered when their leadership would step up and work with Democrats to fix the economy rather than just opposing the president at every turn.

Candy Crowley highlighted the fact that two Senate Democrats voted against President Obama‘s jobs bill when it came to the floor, and asked Wasserman-Schultz how she could say reconcile this with her claim that the Republicans who voted against the bill were hoping for the president to fail. Wasserman-Schultz was quick to insist that the Democratic party does not “demand unanimity,” and bashed the Republicans for making the defeat of President Obama in the presidential election their biggest priority over the next few months.

However, Wasserman-Schultz did express disappointment at Senator Jon Tester, one of the two Senate Democrats who voted against the bill, for not voting in favor of the bill, focusing on the importance of Democrats and Republicans working together. But she did not expect much cooperation from Republicans anyway.

“Where’s the leadership on the Republican side? They want to talk about sitting on the sidelines, they’re the ones that have just been crossing their arms and hoping for failure. I mean, how could, it’s so irresponsible for them to allow the economy to just remain stagnant…”
