Fox News’ The Five Talks Marijuana Legalization And Greg Gutfeld’s Porn Habits

video

Today on Fox News’ The Five , Dana Perino asked Greg Gutfeld why he thought a discussion of marijuana and online gambling was “the fun segment.” After a lengthy debt-ceiling, the question really wasn’t a toughy and the segment didn’t disappoint. Sure the central question of whether legalizing and taxing marijuana and gambling was mostly eschewed for subjective opinion stuff but it was still five minutes in which Gutfeld’s online porn habits were broached and Bob Beckel talked pot smokers attacking people with bell bottoms. So there’s that.

“Bell bottoms?” Really?

Online gambling mostly got the short shrift as the panel separated along the lines of those who thought the potentially nation-saving money brought in from the taxation of drugs was worth the potential problems. Andrea Tantaros was worried about criminals with marijuana in their system while Gutfeld pointed out that we were wasting money locking up non-violent marijuana users. Eric Bolling was alarmed with the idea of “coke machines and joint machines” (lower case kind of “coke”) while Beckel talked up the use of medical marijuana clinics.

All in all, it was nice to see a debate that wasn’t broken up along the Beckel vs. Everyone Else team lines.

lol…both Wolf and Matthews beat The Five in the demo yesterday.

    Most annoying show ever!

  • The Voice of Reason

Seen very little of this show. From what I’ve seen though its very entertaining banter. Has potential.

    *correction – not Wolf. HLN.*

Beckel is NOT the Oracle at Delphi re. drug and alcohol addiction. He is not exactly a person whose expertise I’d solicit regarding the toll of drugs on American society, since he’s in the bubble of Washington politics- but he has developed a reputation in DC because he is a cocaine addict who has gotten sober- there’s a hubris there that is unbecoming and in direct opposition to the steps of AA. Roger Ebert is also a recovering alcoholic, but he’s one of the most obvious “dry drunks” I’ve ever seen.

I find it LUDICROUS that talking heads villify smoking a Marlboro or a Camel, yet extoll the virtues of SMOKING marijuana.

I can’t believe it, but I agree with BFD- it IS “the most annoying show ever!”

  • Azarkhan

I didn’t know Bob Beckel is a recovering cocaine addict. Even so, I won’t attack him the way left wing extremists attack Glenn Beck about his prior alcohol addiction.

  • ProudCanadian

I’m really surprised that there hasn’t been more progress towards the legalization of marijuana in the US. It would be such a great source of income, most likely clearing up a good chunk of the deficit within a few years. It would also help with the over-crowding of prisons, since arresting someone for pot possession is pretty silly. Alcohol does more harm than pot, and that’s legal, so what’s the problem?

  • timzank

Beckel is recovering alcoholic as well, he mentions it at least once a show, and he’s got a soft spot for hookers too:

“Andrea Tantaros was worried about criminals with marijuana in their system…”

    Dear Andrea,

Unfortunately, you are an idiot who has no idea what you are talking about. Please go home because you are embarrassing yourself.

    Thank you.

The problem with marijuana, cocaine, heroin and prescription medications is that they are ALL mood altering chemicals, but not readily detectable in daily living, unlike alcohol. With drinking, you can tell whether or not someone is “impaired”, but it is harder to discern when your airline pilot or your doctor is impaired due to marijuana or any other drugs. Which, by the way, is why there are treatment centers that deal primarily with health professionals- because they are so very expert at using and concealing their drug abuse and “functioning” at what might initially seem to be acceptable levels.

Marijuana still creates impairment, whether those who use it will acknowledge it or not.

My quarrel with Beckel is that he speaks as though he is the most knowledgeable guy on the planet about cocaine use and recovery- and that is NOT how it works. He knows better. I’ve never heard Beck talk the same way about his recovery.

Highlight for me was when Dana Perino might have pulled a pink pistol out and pointed at Beckel’s head for some BS he said about Bush and Iraq WMD’s, as if the Dems hadn’t also seen the same evidence and made the same type of public statements Bush had (basically along the lines that we if we didn’t go to Iraq there was a chance our allies could be the victims of WMD) I recall John Kerrry saying the same thing. According to Dana, Senator Clinton had as well. Dana’s hackles were less up when they started talking about the TSA’s ineptitide. All in all this is turning out to be an excellent show for being brand new. I’d rather it be Geraldo (if he could keep a muzzle on enough to not dominate the conversation) than Eric Bolling. Geraldo is as liberal as Beckel for the most part so it would provide a better balance.

In the 70′s in Florida Weed was De-Criminalized and this was true across most of the nation; The sky did not fall.

    Then the ‘Moral Majority’ happened.

Legalize it, Tax it and get it over with…The ‘War on Drugs’ was lost long ago.

  • Nature Freak

I watched this clip of ‘The Five’ expecting to make fun of it.

This may shock some here, but Nature Freak actually enjoyed the clip. Maybe I will have to give ‘The Five’ a second chance.

    Dana Perino is rather perky….

    Regarding Florida, What happened?

I need to find some links, but Florida’s marijuana laws are now among the most draconian in the nation. My understanding is that only 1 or 2 other states have stricter laws.

Marijuana needs to be legalized. One can not OD from marijuana. I also realize marijuana is not for everyone. I quit 3 years ago. Marijuana made me very paranoid. There are those that do not have this yucky side effect from ganja. Marijuana can also be truly medicinal. It has its uses.

  • http://www.snowspot.net Snowspot

There’s no reason not to legalize, I like this show a lot more than most Fox Shows.. Dana Perino being there is pretty interesting too.

I does have significant medical uses, and my X would be dead if not for weed. She had a double radical mastectomy with 18mo o very nasty Chemo. Thank Science she is still here and now healthy…but it was a touch and go thing. and the Only thing that stopped the pain and allowed her to eat and keep it down was weed.

I personaly last smoked in 1975, but in the early/mid 70′s Marijuana was de-criminalized, and for possession of under 5 Grams in Florida the penalty was a ticket with a fine of $35.00. The Drinking age then was 18 too.

What happened was the Moral Majority and the War on Drugs. The new Laws that came with this War on Liberty, gave Local Governments the right to seize assets of ‘Drug Related’ arrests. That change in Law giving local Gov. an income stream and a direct incentive, Greed, to push the limits is why this War is still popular with Government.

The money is the reason we still have a ‘War on Drugs’ – Really a ‘War on Liberty’ today. All the other excuses are just verbiage. The Reason is Money.

When push comes to shove, With Government its all about the ‘Magic Dollah’…turning Ours into theirs.

  • White Ninja

I think people are still against legalization because they equate the idea that everyone CAN use with the idea that everyone SHOULD use. I think thats where a lot of the promotion for it goes off the rails to gain support also. They make it sound too much like they think everyone SHOULD do it which turns a lot of people off to supporting legalization.

what is it with Eric Bolling always running around without a tie on…looks like he wants to “pimp” or some type of
playboy. Everyone on Fox dresses with class…but not this dude..I guess he hasthinks he has to look “cool man”……i would send him on to CNN….they have all the “pimps” so he would fit in very well.

also, very hard to watch any show that “OVER THE HILL” BOB BECKELL is on….this man never says anything that makes any sense…maybe he is still drinking although he says he is off the juice…

Dana, Andrea and Greg are good, but wow…this show leaves alot to be desired….what a come down from Beck.

  • TillieGlockenspiel

I’ll tell you what, as soon as local, state and federal governments stop putting restrictions on and villifying the use of nicotine, I’ll support legalization of marijuana. If smoking one “weed” is okay, then the smoking of another plant should be on par.

  • Steve_27

Legalize pot, kill the babies and let the gays “walk down the isle.” The founding Fathers must be looking down very proudly i’m sure. Oh wait, does “looking down” sound religious? Another American tradtion I have to fight for I guess. And when lefty ideas get attacked as un-American, the left gets offended? Or, they display their version of “bravery” and argue that they’re proud “progressives.” Amazing.

I’m conflicted with this marijuana issue. We often form our opinions based on our life experiences. So my view of marijuana is that it was a recreational drug you did in college. And then, when it was time to grow up and be a responsible adult and citizen, you left it behind and moved on. Which I had no problem doing. I experienced all the wonders of being a paranoid vegatable with an insatiable appitite. But when I graduated from College and was asked to take a responsible position in society, I had no trouble leaving all that behind. So based on my experience, I see no issue with legalizing marijuana. Yet not everyone shares my experience, nor my belief that at some point when you transition from childhood to adulthood, you put away childish things. In other words there is no guarantee that every individual will act responsibly. Then there is the issue of “Medical” marijuana. I feel that issue however, is being handled correctly. Each state is deciding, for themselves, on how to handle that issue. And finally there is the fiscal aspect. I think it could be a money maker. I remember as a child one of the banes on society was gambling. Years later it turns out the reason gambling was a bane, to society, was because society hadn’t figured out how to get their piece of the action. Finally an enterprising young mind came up with the idea of a state sponsered Lottery. Magically, gambling was a bane no more. In life, it is apparent that Money can break down moral and ethical barriers. So try not to look at marijuana as a moral or ethical issue. Look at it as a monetary issue, like the “Tea Party” does. You’ll be less conflicted.

On June 17, 1971, President Nixon told Congress that “if we cannot destroy the drug menace in America, then it will surely destroy us.” After forty years of trying to destroy “the drug menace in America” we still *haven’t* been able to destroy it and it still *hasn’t* destroyed us. Four decades is long enough to realize that on this important issue, President Nixon was wrong! All actions taken as a result of his invalid and paranoid assumptions (e.g. the federal marijuana prohibition) should be ended immediately!

It makes no sense for taxpayers to fund the federal marijuana prohibition when it *doesn’t* prevent people from using marijuana and it *does* incite the awful violence that we read about in the news every day by making criminals incredibly wealthy and inciting the Mexican drug cartels to murder thousands of people every year.

We need legal adult marijuana sales in supermarkets, gas stations and pharmacies for exactly the same reason that we need legal alcohol and tobacco sales – to keep drug dealer criminals out of our neighborhoods and away from our children. Marijuana must be made legal to sell to adults everywhere that alcohol and tobacco are sold.

“There’s something extraordinarily perverse when we’re so concerned about preventing addicts from having access to drugs that we destroy the lives of many times more people, either through untreated pain or other drug war damage”.

I have tried to watch “The five”, but sorry, can’t stand it, Bob Beckel makes me sick, and the guy usually sitting on the right of the table, looks like he is going to slide out of his chair most of the time, tries to make jokes of everything, and everyone talks over each other, Not an imformative discussion.  so I am turning to re runs of Parking wars.

Please get Beckel off this show. I watch Fox all of the time but will not watch this show until Beckel is gone.

Bob beckel brings in the analogy that you have to buy insurance for a car…  why not for health care…
I hope that car care isnt made law as I would think that it would  not be constitutional to help
pay  beckels insurance for his limo. as I dont have a car!…is the man stupido?
