Friday Ratings: Your Weekend Is Ushered In By Fox News And MSNBC

Fox News routinely wins the cable news prime time ratings, and MSNBC has a string of second-place finishes under its belt, but it’s rare to get a night with both channels snagging all of the first and second-place finishes in the 25-54 year-old demo. That was the case Friday night, as the networks ran the table in the ratings. Ed Schultz‘s second-place finish at 8 p.m. — his 166,000 demo viewers just eked by Anderson Cooper‘s 162,000 — was the closest MSNBC got to dipping into third place on the night.

Some other fun facts from Friday:

  • Rachel Maddow‘s 278,000 demo viewers at 9 p.m. didn’t beat Sean Hannity‘s 444,000 in the time slot, but she did manage to finish ahead of a FNC show on the night — The 11 p.m. re-air of The O’Reilly Factor, which attracted just 260,000 demo viewers.
  • HLN managed to get just three shows in triple digits on the night in the demo: Prime News With Vinnie Politan, Nancy Grace, and Showbiz Tonight.
  • The only non-HLN show to dip below 100,000 demo viewers was John King‘s at 6 p.m. He attracted just 64,000 viewers.
  • Average time slot finish:

    FOX: 1
    MSNBC: 2
    CNN: 3.14
    HLN: 3.86

Run her at !!PM and see what see gets.

And ya forgot th point out that the Five got more in the demo and total viewers than did Maddow!

      LOL-

It’s kind of sad if that’s their greatest achievement. The highest-rated MSNBC show beat a re-air of the O’Reilly Factor – barely.

But hey it’s a start. 1 million viewers is not bad. Hannity was below 2 million as well. Maddow almost beats Greta by the way. I think that’s something you could actually brag about later. Beating a re-air show is not that amazing.

      But they can try!

    • Jason_in_Vegas

Thanks for the predictable news, mediaite.

Now get back to complaining about Republicans offering up some hygeine tips to your hippy friends.

    • Tony

They should offer those to tea baggers too. Those people smell!

    • Anonymous

I think that the other cable news networks should go dark for the 8pm hour, it doesnt matter who you throw up against him, O’Reilly is gonna win.

    • Grendelprime

      Yeesh, Nando.

You “eke” out, you squeak “by” but you don’t “eke by.”

Why does everything on this site look like a first draft?

tea party never left thrash at any event. tea party never raped any women at any event. we can go on and on but why when you can’t see what’s in front of you. dude just pass any ows event and then tell me who really stinks

I don’t think beating a re-broadcast at 11 with a first run program at 9 is anything to boast about.

“Red Eye” at 3 a.m. (Eastern) get more demo and total viewers than many of the first run programs on MSNBC and CNN.

The only thing CNN or MSNBC has that is in the area of “Red Eye” is the Rev. Al on MSNBC, he’s a riot!

Or is he just a laughing stock?
