Greta Tops Hannity, Maddow Tops Countdown
Cable news ratings, July 24, 2009: Check out the highlights, and see the full ratings below:
• Greta Van Susteren followed up on her highest total viewer average of 2009 with another strong night on Friday for part two of her interview with radio star Rush Limbaugh. Van Susteren’s 10pmET On the Record topped FNC’s 9pmET program, Sean Hannity‘s Hannity in both total viewers and the A25-54 demographic – a rare occurrence.
• Rachel Maddow was in Friday night on MSNBC at 9pmET, and Keith Olbermann at 8pmET was not (Richard Wolffe subbed). It certainly helped Maddow get a rare victory over Countdown in both total viewers and the demo.
• CNN’s Campbell Brown has struggled in the ratings, and it was no more evident on Friday night. Her total viewer average of 637,000 was topped by the A25-54 demo average of her 8pmET opponent on FNC, Bill O’Reilly‘s The O’Reilly Factor (he had 668,000). Update: Rick Sanchez was filling in for Brown Friday night.
• While Nancy Grace‘s HLN show enjoyed a 2nd place in the demo (behind FNC), she did not perform as well in total viewers. CNN’s Brown and MSNBC’s Countdown edged Grace in total, pushing the HLN host to 4th at 8pmET.
• In the ongoing battle for 2nd place in prime time, MSNBC topped CNN in the demo, while CNN defeated MSNBC in total viewers.
