Hannity Rips ‘Conspiracy Theorist’ Maddow: Trump-Russia Theories Made Her ‘Nationwide Laughingstock’
Fox News host Sean Hannity couldn’t help but get in a dig at MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow on Wednesday, dubbing her a “conspiracy theorist” and “nationwide laughingstock” for her coverage of the Russia investigation.
“[We’ve] got to demand accountability for those so-called networks, that call themselves news networks, and their disgusting conspiratorial coverage every second, minute, hour of every day,” Hannity began, before his interview with President Donald Trump.
He added: “Last night we called out the chief conspiracy theorist at NBC news, Rachel Maddow. Making a fortune at the expense of her viewers. Filling their minds with pure fiction and creating a sense of any second now, we got him, we caught him. They want to quench their anti-Trump hatred.”
Noting that now the Mueller “witch hunt” is officially over, “the truth has been laid bare for all to see.”
“Her nightly fake Trump Russia collusion theories may have made her nationwide laughingstock,” he continued, airing a screenshot of The Drudge Report’s headline asking the question: “Now What?”
“But honestly, her viewers, they kind of should have seen this coming a mile away,” he opined. “After all, Trump-Russia collusion is hardly a first venture into the land of tinfoil hat conspiracy theories.”
Hannity then played a montage of what he called “the worst fake news stories” that she pushed for the week.
Hannity is no stranger to Russia-related conspiracy theories himself, having infamously pushed the baseless conspiracy theory that DNC staffer Seth Rich was murdered because he stole emails and gave them to Wikileaks. Hannity only stopped pushing the theory after pleas from the Rich family and an intervention from his bosses at the network.
Maddow airs on MSNBC at the 9 p.m. time slot opposite of Hannity on Fox News. Since the Mueller report summary came out, Maddow has seen her ratings slump, while Hannity’s are booming.
