Jive Talking: Rick Sanchez Asks Guest About Reid Comments, Obama ‘Jive’

The story of Harry Reid referencing a negro dialect in describing Candidate Obama has been a promotional gold mine for the publisher’s of Game Change, the new book by Mark Halperin and John Heilemann chronicling the 2008 presidential campaign. The salacious splendor of the book is sure to be a hot topic for the next week, but some of the details are giving the media fits – best evidenced by CNN’s Rick Sanchez asking guest Tony Blakely about President Obama’s alleged use of ‘jive’

Sanchez took an interesting approach to this story, focusing on the later part of the Reid quote that claimed that Obama spoke in a Negro dialect when he “wants to.” How did Sanchez put it? “When he wants to, Obama can maybe talk jive.”

Blakely responded, “Let me start off by saying I don’t think that people generally should have their careers ended because they say something dumb, or seems to be dumb.”

Well said Mr. Blakely.

Too bad 60 minutes and CBS didn’t take advantage of the REAL news out of the book, the Reid (and other) stuff and instead went for the hate/hit piece on Palin. Typical Cooper and CBS/CNN.

As for Sanchez — his turning the phrase “negro dialect” to “jive” talk is interesting. Too bad the collective talkers didn’t stand up for IMUS, despite all his apologies, he lost his job as did Lott. But hey — double standards galore.

Welcome to dumbed down America. Europeans laugh at us because or media shows how stupid Americans truly are.

Cronkite is dead, Ted Koppel is retired. We have NO real journalist out there. The idiots , ignorants, young in this country think this CRAP they are watching on cable (so called) news channels.. they think this is actually how news is supposed to be handled.

Fox feeds the stupid and the gullible. Msnbc does the same to the left side, and CNN is too much a coward to stand up and do REAL NEWS and lay off all this other crap the other 2 channels lower themselves to do for ratings.

I stood up for Imus. The network cowared to the public interest. It was ridiculous he lost his job over that lame comment.

I agree with much of what you say (though I could care less what Europeans laugh at), but could you provide examples of the real journalism of people like Koppel and Cronkite. In my opinion both were corporate newsreaders who did little journalism.

Cronkite and CBS were very much at odds over the Vietnam coverage, after Walter’s epiphany. A true light, as it ended up being. As for Koppel, there were several incidents of ABC trying to tone him down on the Iran Hostage Crisis and on some environmental reporting.

His name is Tony BLANKLEY, not Blakely.

Jeez, it was spelled correctly on the screen in two places. How hard is it to get the name right?
