Katie Couric Leaving ABC News for Yahoo!
Katie Couric has had a long and wide-ranging career across the big three networks (NBC, CBS, and ABC), and now she is reportedly negotiating her exit from ABC News and her talk show Katie, after joining the network in 2011 and getting the daytime show just last year, for what sources told The Hollywood Reporter is a big deal Couric is working on with Yahoo.
UPDATE: Mediaite has independently confirmed Couric’s exit from ABC.
11/25 UPDATE: Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer has officially confirmed the news on Tumblr, welcoming Couric aboard as the site’s Global Anchor.
TVNewser obtained a statement from someone at ABC News that all but confirms Couric’s exit.
“Katie is an incredible journalist and this was an opportunity that she couldn’t pass up,” an ABC newser in the know tells TVNewser. “Thanks to the powerful association between ABC News and Yahoo we know that Katie will continue to work closely with us and welcome her on our air anytime.”
Couric would just be the latest high-profile media figure to jump ship for Yahoo, after the site scored some big wins with the recent hires of Matt Bai and David Pogue, both formerly of The New York Times.
As for her departure from ABC News, it would seem that Couric hasn’t been doing too much with the news division as of late so its unclear what, if any, impact it will have.
