Krystal Ball: Rick Perry’s Anti-Gay Ad ‘Smacks Of Desperation’, ‘Race-baiting’

video

MSNBC contributor Krystal Ball slammed Rick Perry‘s new ad blasting gays in the military on Martin Bashir Thursday saying it was a sign his campaign was on the ropes.

“It smacks of desperation because Rick Perry knows that if voters go to caucus and they’re thinking about the economy or who has the best grasp of the issues or the best leader, they won’t vote for him,” Ball observed. “So he has to frame this as a values thing. It’s the red meat about Obama and the same race-baiting stuff they have been doing all along. But this is also about Mitt Romney being Mormon, it’s also about Newt Gingrich and his past infidelities. So for Rick Perry, that’s why he’s doing this very despicable and cynical framing.”

“I want to point out how outside of the mainstream this anti-gay ad is,” Ball added. “At the time of repeal (of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell), 80% of Americans were supporting repeal. Since repeal was instituted, even the public face of the opposition who was Marine General Amos, he said it’s been a nonevent. That’s how far the GOP has moved outside of the mainstream.”

‘…It’s the red meat about Obama and the same race-baiting stuff they have been doing all along.’ Krystal Ball

There’s a lot of it about. Perry needs a little spotlight right now…

  • Anonymous

Krystal Ball: The point Perry was making about Gays serving openly in the military was not to say that it was overtly a bad thing, but that the rights of Christians to openly exercise their freedom of religion in schools and the workplace. It was never the intention of the founding fathers to prevent people from practicing their beliefs, openly and in public forums. Their intention was quit teh opposite and that was the ponit Perry was making, not that Gays serving openly in the military was a bad thing. I think your interpretation of his ad, and predictable knee-jerk reaction, exposes you for the liberal that you are and that you have no ability to understand the frustration that many christians feel about the open and vitriolic persecution of Christians in this country by people like yourself. Your mis-interpretation of the ad is what is dispicable here, not Rick Perry’s ad.

Krystal Ball: “Perry also talked about the economy which is code word for racism, homophobia, sexism, Islamophobia, and ever other “ism” and “phobia’ imaginable.”

Oh magic Krystal Ball what is my future….MSNBC, oh $hit.

Rick Perry’s comments in support of violence against gay people is the kind of evil that is very common among Republicans.  Let’s not beat around the bush.  Republicans are the scum of the earth.

  • http://www.facebook.com/RonPaulDisciple Robert Timsah

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but…

    Kids can pray in school.

They just can’t LEAD the school in prayer.

    Right???

  • Anonymous

son, quote where Perry advocated violence against gays in that ad.

I love how you just lie.

  • Anonymous

Rick Perry never ever said anything to promote or support violence against gays. Stop lying.

  • Anonymous

He can’t- that is all he has.

  • Anonymous
  • Anonymous

I didn’t say Perry did anything in that ad. The reason you lied is because you are a Republican, and all Republicans are compulsive liars.

  • Mo Fokker

While it reeks of desperation, the fundie dumbsh*ts in Iowa are exactly the type of people who are likely to buy into it.

  • Anonymous

Yes, kids can pray, as long as they keep it to themselves and do not try to promote prayer openly. Prayer has be dis-allowed in school as a function of school and in some cases they are not even allowed to recite the Pledge of Allegiance because it contains the word God. Christianity is under attack in this country, which is ironic, considering that this nation was founded and created because of religious persecution.

  • Anonymous

Son, where in the ad referred to in the above did Perry advocate violence against gays.

And no where did Perry do so in the link you posted.

Son, you are still the biggest liar on Mediaite!

  • Anonymous

Woops, you lied again. You can’t stop. Please try to remember that you are a compulsive liar.

  • Anonymous

As long as they don’t display it openly, kind of like it was in for gays with  DADT.

  • Anonymous

No where in that story does it say that Perry Promotes or Encourages Violence against gays.

  • Anonymous

    son, caught ya lying again.

Show where Perry advocated violence against gays?

You can’t because all you do is lie!

  • Anonymous

    LOL

Now we have it from Mr. Lib Liar himself- if you disagree with Obama, you are advocating violence!

    Bawahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

In your little world, gays serving openly in the military denies Christians their freedom of religion in schools and the workplace?  You’re nuts.   You and Perry both. Bigoted, hateful monsters.

Isn’t it amazing that Korean is here advocating violence against Christians- he is against prayer in school, so that means he is advocating violence against Christians.

Korean, I’m jut using your logic, son.

youre an idiot…freedom to worship as one sees fit is the true answer…the original settlers  in America came here to escape the same type of theocracy that you goofball right wing religious bible slangin fruitcakes want to return too…if your dumb ass wants to pray….GO TO CHURCH….stop trying to impose your screwed up religious beliefs on everybody…..get a life

  • Anonymous

they dont make em much dumber than you do they”

Yes they do, son- look in the mirror.

  • Guest

All offense intended… You are a sorry excuse for a human being. You are a brain-washed left-wing commie. I am sure this issue is important to you because you are either gay or the abused child of a gay person. I am sure that when you were born the doctors tried to throw you into the disposal bin and keep the after-birth but your pparents decided to keep you instead so they would have a boy-toy to play with.

    Hows that?

  • Anonymous

You’re just lying compulsively, as always.

Obama came out with a human rights strategy to protect gay people from violence, and Perry came out against the strategy because he does not support human rights and he hates gay people. There’s no mystery here. All Republicans feels the same way.

The reason you lie compulsively is because you are a Republican, and all Republicans are systematically trained to lie compulsively.

Rick “Birther Rock” Perry would never pander to bigots. I mean, it’s not as if he actually believes that Birther business. He just likes to poke fun at the first Black president being hounded to show his papers, that’s all.

On a side note, what is with this opposition to gays serving? Even if you’re the staunchest homophobe, it’s not as if their campaigning for an all expenses paid vacation at Disney World. It’s the military.

  • Anonymous

    YOU ARE A LIAR!

Quote his comments advocating violence against gays or just STFU- you pathetic lying lib!

The only person “making an ass” out of themselves, is you.

Homosexuals can now proclaim to their barracks-mates that they’re proud queers.  Terrific.

However, if the valedictorian at a high school wants to deliver his/her graduation speech about how instrumental God was to their ability to be a valedictorian, that’s prohibited by more than a few school districts; some of which have been repudiated by the courts, thankfully.

We will do that when you stop imposing your gay agenda on everyone, son.

    “Hows that?”

TBH, it’s not really offensive in the way that will make someone want to punch you in the face. A lot of trolls here fail at achieving the level of humor that would provoke such a reaction. They’re insults tend to be rather juvenile. It is offensive in a way that exposes you while belying the flimsy argument you were trying to make in your original post.

  • Anonymous

He has been caught lying — again!

What exactly do you think Perry came out against when he came out against Obama’s LGBT rights strategy? (Please don’t run away from the question. We all know you’re a coward. Just try, for once, to explain your position.)

Why shouldn’t Christianity be under attack? Christians are trying to force Christian beliefs into every aspect of American society and law. Those of us who aren’t Christians don’t want to live under Christian tyranny, so course we fight, what the heck do you expect?

Rarely do I respond to a personal attack, but it’s relevant here.

“Son, I am so happy that you can now enlist and serve our great country.”

Been there, done that. You’re talking to an honorably discharged vet. Have family that has as well. The vast majority of the people in the military care that the person serving with them is competent, not what their sexuality is. I also happen to be a Christian. Gay people don’t scare me. Do you spend your nights afraid homosexuals are coming to get you? Don’t bother saluting me. If I wanted thanks I’ve associate the military with my handle, as some people on here do. I wouldn’t even mention my service were it not for the fact that your ignorance calls for me to do so.

BTW, “son”? Whatever happened to “child”? Did that get banned with your last account? You have absolutely no pride, to come crawling back here, like the disgusting bug you are, after being tossed out on your @ss. Have some pride, creature!

I remember reciting the Pledge of Allegiance as a kid and it’s a shame that today our kids aren’t being taught the basics of civics and citizenship these days. I understand the need to raise awareness of other cultures but this is America and we need to give every child a chance to appreciate all of this country’s cultural wonders.

Why is Perry even spending money on ads when he has no hope of winning?

Why is anybody paying any attention to them for the very same reason?

These ads are dumb. Why?Because you either are an extremist wingnut and already think like he does or you’re a normal human being and do not.the ad won’t sway you.

I really wish Obama would grow some balls and push through a national gay marriage act just to take the smiles off a few extreme right gay haters faces.

Gender is not more important than love and the desire to pay the ultimate tribute to it by getting married.

And gay people and their relationships are not a threat to anyone or anything.

Stoned1, you didn’t strike a nerve. I know that’s all you’re here to do, as you have yet to offer anything remotely constructive in your time here. I’m not embarrassed by my service. As I said, HONORABLY discharged VET. It’s taken this long to bring up because, up until your silly reply to my comment, it really hasn’t been relevant to my point. It’s not something I’m going to bring up, unless service is specifically mentioned. My arguments stand on their own merit. I don’t need the extra ammo. That you are now trying to pretend you were genuinely attempting to thank me for my service, before you were made aware of it, rather than meeting your quota for bigoted comments, further exposes you for the joke you are. Now that you are aware of my service, as I said before, I do not EXPECT to be thanked. If you genuinely want to, emphasis on “genuinely,” I’m not going to jump down your throat for it. I’m just not going to hold my nose in the air waiting for people to thank me for something I chose to do. You wouldn’t understand, because you have no pride. If you had any pride you wouldn’t have lowered yourself, if it is possible for you to lower yourself, by returning here after being humiliated and banned. The mediaite staff took your lunch money and you quietly slimed your way over to sit at their table with your tail between your legs.

Just some of the comments from the many Fox sites you visit. You seem like you’d fit in well with the right leaning posters here. You tipped your hand when you put more onus on the behavior of the liberals in this thread, though any truly objectionable person can see it was the right leaning posters who started the attacks. If you think your post, or the posts you’ve made on other sites, are examples of maturity and intellect, you’re wrong. Likely you came here and the behavior of those on your side was too much for even you to handle, but far be it for you to call them out without taking a shot at those commie libs, right?

Let’s not forget this paragon of maturity you gave a thumbs up:

“Sesame Street has come out and said that
there is no s e xual associations with Bert and Ernie, because they are
puppets. They are for entertainment purposes only and are not real.

    One
of the biggest problems in this country is the labeling of people and
even material things as being G a y, or Not G a y. If two males are in a
room together they are not going to be sexually attracted to each
other. The same is true of females. While there may be a percentage of
people that would, the majority, would not. Why can’t friends just be
friends and not be labeled? Especially in association with educating c h
    i l d r e n. The entire premise that all men are homosexuals is a lie.
It is a lie based on the needs of those that are to justify their
behavior. If Bert and Ernie are homosexuals then that somehow makes the
    subject of G a y Marriage acceptable.
    I have friends who are G a y. I
don’t mind that they are G a y. They know I am straight and that I will
knock them out if they make a move, so it’s all good. But, the moment
they start trying to push their agenda they find out how I really feel
    about it.
If someone chooses to be G a y, that is fine. Whatever.
But, just like drug addicts and alcoholics, they don’t want to do it
alone. They have to bring in as many as they can to make themselves feel
better about what they are doing to themselves. It is like being a drug
dealer and pushing your drugs on youths. The more they get to do what
they do, the better and the more accepted they are. It is anti-social
behavior. This movement to get Bert and Ernie married is just a prime
example of that culture wanting to be accepted so much that they are
willing to super-impose their own lifestyle onto an inanimate object
meant for educating our youngest. It is morally bankrupt.”

  • Anonymous

And, let me tell you, no one is going to believe you’re an extremist with comments like:

“This would be nothing more than a Political Weapon used against the
Republicans by Obama and his Administration, which is Illegal under
Abuse of Power. If the FCC implements the Fairness Doctrine, it will be
only to quiet the voice of opposition by Fox News, the CBC and Talk
Radio. It is one more step on the path to a dictatorship. This is right
out of the Hugo Chavez Handbook and it follows Communist Manifest
Destiny. Control the Media and you control the people by means of the
information the people have available to them. It is Marxist by design
and allows for even greater abuses of power. If this was reintroduced by
the Obama Staff or even himself, as a means to re-election, he can and
should be Impeached for it and he should go to jail.”

If you think being gay is a choice then wake up tomorrow and be gay for the day.  Go ahead and try, go to a  gay bar, tell yourself you’re attracted to a guy and then have a sexual encounter with him.  Think you could do it?  No, of course you couldn’t, you’re not wired that way but they are and they could no more be attracted to women if they wanted.  But if you still want to, go ahead and suck some guys dick maybe you’ll like it, you never know.  Throughout all of the animal world there are instances of different species having gay sex and same sex partners.  It happens with humans in about 10-12% of the species.  You can keep being stupid and believing they choose to behave this way but you’d be wrong.

I don’t think gays wear a sign on them saying “I’m gay”.  Likewise, those Christians who want to openly exercise their religion can do so – they just don’t need a microphone to do it.

Like my mother said  “it is how you live your life, and you won’t find the need to have a microphone to pray but instead can pray silently if that is your desire.
The problem with the rightwing religlious nuts is that they don’t care that there are other people with other religions among us.  And, just as they have a problem with someone being Mormon, just imagine how they would react if someone took that microphone they think they need to publicly display their prayer and instead addressed a Hindu God like Krishna?????

The fact that the Pledge of Allegiance has the word “God” in it is not the reason that the pledge is not said in schools.  Some religions actually prohibit their followers from the pledge.  I say, that is too bad.  They still need to stand at attention while others take the pledge.
Christianity is NOT under attack by anyone other than the Christians themselves who do not respect the rights of others to practice their religion.
If you want religion in the schools, take your kids to a parochial school.

The Pledge is recited in public schools in some states, it’s legal.  It shouldn’t be, but it is.  It’s also legal to have “In God We Trust” posted in public schools.  It is perfectly legal and allowed for students to pray in public schools as well.  Lastly, none of these issues have anything to do with President Obama.  The ad is pure nonsense.

homosexuals are attempting to secure what they have been denied for 600
years, absolute equality with heterosexuals, since king henry, head of
church/state, made it a hanging offense that lasted for 300 years and remained
in anglo saxon culture illegal for another 300 years, subjecting gays to
abandonment by friends and family, rejection by society including the church,
as well as possible incarceration, assault , execution and murder.

yet gays like heterosexuals live the fullness of god’s love in their lives and
    marriages.

  • http://uscommonsense.net/blog/ US Common Sense

I don’t see the ad as “anti-gay.” I see him using the Democrats argument about “rights” for gays against them saying “Christians” have rights too. It doesn’t hurt anyone nor damage the morale to allow kids to pray in school, just like it doesn’t hurt anyone nor damage the morale to all gays in the military. “You can’t have it both ways.”

He could teach me a lot of things and I am always eager to listen and learn. No one knows everything but many of us think we do. You can even learn from a little child. I call that feeling of superiority many have a Nazi spirit because I believe that all men are created equal which is what the Constitution says.
