MSNBC Continues Dominance Over CNN During Opinion Hours – While Declining Year-To-Year

ratings

MSNBC continued its dominance over CNN in August, while Fox News remained far in the lead.

Here’s a breakdown of MSNBC ratings:

• For the second month in a row, and fifth month in 2010, MSNBC had more viewers in the A25-54 demographic than CNN for total day. In prime time, MSNBC topped CNN for the seventh consecutive month in the demo. MSNBC grew slightly year-to-year in the demo, total day – a rare feat in August for any cable news network. Still, CNN continued to top MSNBC during the daytime hours in total viewers and the demo (from 9am-5pmET).

Hardball topped CNN at 5pmET and 7pmET in the demo – the first time the MSNBC program topped CNN at 5pmET in more than two years. It was also Hardball‘s best month since September 2009.

Countdown with Keith Olbermann topped CNN at 8pmET in both categories – and beat the live Anderson Cooper 10pmET show in both categories as well.

The Ed Show had its best month ever in the demo during August.

Rachel Maddow topped CNN for the 7th consecutive month in both categories.

This is the final month before MSNBC adds another live opinion show to its roster, with Lawrence O’Donnell at 10pmET. It’s safe to assume the ratings will improve even further during prime time when that happens.

    “…Dominance Over CNN”!

That’s like saying CD’s have dominance over 8-tracks.

If I were the braintrust (such as it is) over at msnbc, I’d be a little more concerned with the 800lb. GORILLA in the room! – and we all know who that is!!!!!

MSNBC also continued it’s dominance over cable’s newest addition, The Beverly Hillbillies rerun channel.

MSNBC beating out CNN? Well, in the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.

No. It isn’t safe to assume that. It’s possible. Probably likely by at least a small bit. But to really move past the Olbermann numbers 10pm currently gets and/or hold on to Maddow’s numbers is not a given.

Didn’t you run this headline last month…MSNBC Declining Year-To-Year!

That will be changea when the buy out is completed…
As a matter of fact…here is their new theme song..

For there’s a change in the weather
There’s a change in the sea
So from now on there’ll be in change in me
My walk will be different, my talk and my name
Nothin’ about me is going to be the same
I’m goin’ to change my wayof livin’
    If that ain’t enough
Then I’ll change the way that I strut my stuff
‘Cause nobody wants you when you’re old and gray
There’ll be some changes made today
    There’ll be some changes made

A song by the late great Billie Holiday
