Rachel Maddow Dissects Republicans’ “Poison Perv Pills”

Rachel Maddow wants to deprive sex offenders of their government-supported Viagra! Or possibly, she supports it. Or, perhaps, she was just making a point about the use of pedophilia and sex drugs as a convenient means of turning legislation into campaign attack ad fodder:

“They keep coming up with ways to add the word ‘pedophile,’ or ‘Viagra,’ or ‘rapist’ to bills that have precisely nothing to do with any of those things. They add those things to bills so it looks like Democrats are voting in favor of pedophiles or Viagra or rapists, when in fact they are voting for things like school lunches.”

“This has been the year of the pervy poison pill,” said Maddow, referring to the traditional political practice of inserting something unacceptable into a bill as a means of killing it. Maddow highlights a recent bill from May dubbed “cash for caulkers” that was really about home weatherization, but became subject to an uber-pervy poison pill:

“Then Republicans developed a poison pill specifically for this awkwardly-named bill. They added a ‘no cash for caulkers money for child molesters provision’ to the legislation. So if you vote for cash for caulkers, you’re voting for molestation. Actually, you’re not. But if you squint, you might convince someone of that in a low-budget campaign ad.”

The point she was making and quite eloquently was that the lies that are being spread for Health Care plan or as it is being called ObamaCare. Not what the benefits truly are. Perhaps you should listen it it again.

There is a broader point to a lot of these poison pills. For example, when it was time to pass the turd called Obamacare, the republicans attempted to deny viagra to sex offenders in that one. But the dems wanted NO republican contributions to the bill, boxed themselves into a point where they couldn’t make ANY changes, no matter how appropriate or correct.

So the fact that the dems refused to listen to ANY ideas from the other side of the aisle is exemplified by this unwillingness to consider even this seemingly agreeable, and relevant, constraint.
